October 15, 2023 – Upper Falls Covered Bridge – Vermont

Today, Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Upper Falls Covered Bridge in Perkinsville, Vermont, also titled the Downers Covered Bridge. The Upper Falls Covered Bridge crosses the Black River. It was originally built in 1840, and was rebuilt in 2008.

We had a lovely Adventure to the Upper Falls Covered Bridge. I have been to many covered bridges in New England, so it is always nice to discover a new one. The Upper Falls Bridge was long and high above the river. I first walked through the bridge before getting the pups out to explore the shore below. It was a very steep path down to the shore, lots of rocks, covered with leaves but somehow, I managed to keep my footing. Even as we were at the bottom there were endless rocks, and unsteady footing but Wilma and Gus found some favorite rocks, enjoyed some sips from the river, and found some sandy spots. Although the bridge was off a busy road it was in a quiet and rural area. It was really a pretty spot! So glad we could Adventure to the Upper Falls Covered Bridge today (Rating: 4)

October 15, 2022 – Marsh-Billings Rockefeller Trail System – Vermont

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park in Woodstock, Vermont. This National Park was named for George Perkins Marsh, and Frederick Billings. George Perkins Marsh was one of the nation’s first global thinkers, while Frederick Billings, was an early conservationist. The park includes: 20 miles of trails, horseback carriage rides, a Victorian mansion, and a museum. It is also a popular location for cross-country skiing in the winter.

We had a marvelous Adventure to Marsh Billings Rockefeller Park on this gorgeous Fall Day. I was so excited to return to Marsh Billings, one of my favorite New England parks, especially eager to see the colors of Autumn. On our Adventure today we mostly explored the trails, including: the Mountain Trail, Poque Loop, and endless side trails. There were many others on the trail, and all dogs we saw, except one were on leash. The colors of the leaves were mostly yellow and orange hues, and the brilliant sun was often shining through the trees. We walked and walked, enjoying the smells and signs of Fall. We spent about four hours hiking and exploring. Although I included a couple photos from the general park area, the majority of the photographs were taken on the trail system. It was an absolutely perfect day and will forever be a special one. So glad we had a day full of exercise, on this perfect Fall Day (Rating: 4.5)

June 24, 2022 – A day in Vermont

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Vermont. Our main destinations were: Woodstock, Manchester, and Quechee, however we stopped at other locations along the way. Some of these were new, and some were old. It has been difficult for me to return to our bigger adventures, since our emergency with Gus, even with our new equipment. It was nice to have a day of peaceful adventures. Gus loved chasing anything moving in between the tall grass, finding sticks, and encouraging Wilma to play. Wilma enjoyed some happy rolls, and rolls of protest as she seemed to not prefer adventures on a warmer day. Therefore we did not do quite as much hiking as I planned as we wanted to make sure everyone enjoyed the day. Our adventures today included: sculptures, gardens, trails, bridges, farms, and a gorge. October 15-17, 2021 – Gus’ First Vacation – Woodstock, Vermont

This weekend Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Woodstock, Vermont for Gus’ first weekend away. Woodstock, Vermont is a charming and picturesque town popular with tourists all year around. It is known for the restaurants, and endless shops. Some of the frequented attractions include: the three covered bridges, various farms, and Marsh-Billings Rockefeller National Historic Park.

We had a fun Adventure to Woodstock, Vermont. As you may guess I was very excited for Gus’ first weekend away, and of course a Fall getaway far from reality! Another special part of the weekend was that my parents were able to join us at some of the main destinations in Woodstock. I have been to Woodstock before, and most of the locations we visited so decided to do one blog with a collage of photographs. Woodstock is a charming, and lovely town with the Ottauquechee River running throughout. I would describe as a “walking town” one of which you can walk to stores, restaurants, one of the covered bridges, and even the National Park. It really is just a beautiful location all of the homes and stores perfectly decorated and landscaped for the season.

On our weekend in Woodstock our stops included: downtown Woodstock, each of the covered bridges (Lincoln, Taftsville, and the Middle Covered Bridge), Sugarbush Farms, and Marsh-Billings Rockefeller National Historic Park. Each morning we started off on a long walk throughout the town, walking to the Middle Covered Bridge, and even walking over to Marsh-Billings Rockefeller National Historic Park. We were lucky to join up with my parent at the Taftsville Bridge, Sugarbush Farms, and Marsh-Billings Rockefeller National Historic Park. We were very thrilled to see them! Although most of the weekend was dark and dreary it really was a wonderful weekend. Even though I was a bit disappointed of the lack of Fall foliage, we were surprised to see some late flower gardens, just lovely. Gus loved his first vacation, and Wilma loved hers as well. October 15, 2021 – Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site – Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, My Parents and I Adventured to the Calvin Coolidge Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. President Calvin Coolidge, our 30th President, was born in this small town. This Site preserves his birth home but also the family homestead, and the community. Besides these historic buildings the Site also includes two museums, and a store. There is an entry fee to explore the grounds, and as expected dogs are only allowed outdoors.

We had an enjoyable Adventure to the Calvin Coolidge Historic Site. I was excited that my parents could join us to visit this unique historic site. Upon entry we drove up a small hill to park, finding gorgeous views of the mountains. This was one of my favorite parts of our visit, the Fall beauty upon us. Unfortunately it was a dark day but we did our best to capture this lovely location. From there we obtained our passes and began wandering the property. We checked out the various buildings, my Dad being our tour guide and historian – Thanks Dad! We found some rocking chairs to sit and of course I located endless locations for Wilma and Gus to pose. Our last stop on the Site was the graveyard, which included many stones from the Coolidge family. The cemetery was lovely on a hill with the mountain colors in the background. So glad we could visit the Calving Coolidge State Historic Site, with perfect company (Rating: This blog will not be rated).

October 15, 2021 – Chester, Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Chester, Vermont. Chester is a small town popular for the shops, Inns, and restaurants. It is centrally located to some of the more popular skiing locations in Vermont.

We had a simple Adventure to the town of Chester Vermont. We found parking easily, directly next to an information booth so I wandered in to get some information before we started exploring. We then walked around locating the cemetery, churches, shops, and lots of Fall decorations. It was a dark and cloudy day so I definitely appreciated these bright colors of Fall. There was not too much to do or see but yet I still enjoy every Adventure, no matter how simple they may be. So glad we could check out the town of Chester, Vermont (This blog will not be rated).

October 15, 2021 – Bartonsville Covered Bridge – Vermont

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Bartonsville Covered Bridge in Rockingham, Vermont. The Bartonsville Covered Bridge was originally built in 1870 but replaced in 2012 after being swept away by Tropical Storm Irene. It traverses the Williams River.

We had a nice visit to the Bartonsville Covered Bridge. Of course being in Vermont I had to locate a covered bridge and the Bartonsville Covered Bridge was it! We arrived in a quiet location, finding railroad tracks crossing along the river and in front of the bridge. I spent some time taking photographs on each side before getting the pups out for a pose. Although the road was quiet, there was just barely a safe spot to walk so we did not trot through together. The bridge was simple, and the location peaceful. So glad we could visit the Bartonsville Covered Bridge today (Rating: 3).

October 15, 2021 – Downtown Bellows Falls – Vermont

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Bellows Falls, Vermont. Bellows Falls is a village which is part of Rockingham, Vermont. Bellows Falls in the location of the Green Mountain Railroad, and also has numerous restaurants and shops.

We had a simple Adventure to Bellows Falls. I located Bellows Falls as a stop to stretch our legs on the way to our final destination. I was not sure what to expect, but figured we would at least get a walk in if not enjoy a new location. We arrived to find parking easily, and off we went. Throughout our walk we found shops and restaurants, views of the canal, a beautiful iron bridge, a water bowl to for the pups to sip, and many colorful mums. I was a bit unimpressed with Bellows Falls but yet tried to enjoy all the the little details, including the signs of Fall. Still glad we could visit Bellows Falls today (Rating: This blog will not be rated).

October 9, 2021 – Robert Frost Stone House Museum – Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Robert Frost Stone House Museum in Shaftsbury, Vermont. As you likely know Robert Frost is a famous American Poet. He resided in the home from 1920-1929. The estate includes the smokehouse, home, and barn. Dogs are allowed on the grounds which include a short poetry trail.

We had a refreshing Adventure to the Robert Frost Stone House Museum. We arrived to find the parking lot quite crowded for the little parking area. We immediately began exploring the grounds, finding the smokehouse, home, and barn all in view. We walked around and explored every little outdoor detail we could find. After visiting the residential area we trotted down the trail finding various poems along the route. It was simple, and pretty, and we enjoyed this path all to ourselves. The property was small, and of course dogs were not allowed indoors so we probably only spent thirty minutes or so wandering the grounds. Wilma and Gus loved walking, climbing the several tall rocks, and of course Wilma enjoyed celebratory rolls, as always. Definitely a fun and unique stop on our day of Adventures (Rating: This blog will not be rated).

October 9, 2021 – Arlington Green Covered Bridge – Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Arlington Green Covered Bridge in Arlington, Vermont. The Arlington Green Covered Bridge was built in 1852 and traverses the Battenkill River. It is one of the older original covered bridges.

We had a simple Adventure to the Arlington Green Covered Bridge on this cloudy Fall day. I was excited to add a new covered bridge to our visits today. We arrived to find a beware of dog sign on one side, and the opposite side with limited options to photograph. The road was actually somewhat busy and right off the main road so not a safe location to wander through. I took some photographs on one side and then let the pups out on the opposite where we stumbled down the steep embankment to the water’s edge. All of us had a little trouble with our footing but Wilma and Gus found the perfect rock to pose on. We did not spend too much time at the Arlington Green Covered Bridge, but still glad to find yet another New England Covered bridge (Rating: 3).
