November 2023 (Late Post) – Long Sand Beach (South) – Maine

This month Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Long Sand Beach (South) in York, Maine. Long Sand Beach is approximately one and a half miles long, located in between the villages of York Town and York Beach on route 1A.

We had a peaceful Adventure to Long Sands Beach (South). I am often hesitant to venture onto beaches due to the chaotic off leash scene, however we did not see anyone on the South end of Long Sands Beach, so decided to check it out. The parking area is above the beach, which provided us the ability to view the scene before heading down the stairs. Although a dark day the sky, and water was still quite lovely, the clouds quite scenic. Immediately upon landing on the sand Gus began some chaotic digging, and Wilma decided it was time to play. The beach makes these two happy, just like most of us.

We wandered to the water’s edge although neither Wilma nor Gus wanted to venture in, which generally does not surprise me. We walked along the water and around the sandy beach. It was so nice to have a quiet adventure to the beach. Another wonderful adventure with Wilma and Gus (this blog will not be rated).

November 2023 (Late Post) – Hartley Mason Reserve/Park – Maine

This month Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Hartley Mason Reserve/Park in York, Maine. The Hartley Mason Reserve/Park is a four-acre seaside Park set above York Harbor and the York Harbor Beach. The land was donated by Hartley Mason in 1993 and now provides a scenic location for visitors.

We had a simple Adventure to the Hartley Mason Reserve/Park. I debated blogging about it as it was a dark day, and small park, but decided to still share. Although I had read about this Park I found it accidentally on the way to a planned location. We stopped and walked through the park enjoying the views of the ocean, and crashing sounds of the waves. Some of my favorite parts of this park were bright yellow fallen leaves, little statues, and the singing of the ocean. As indicated it was a tiny park, so there was not much to explore, however I would guess it has beautiful gardens during the summer. Wilma however made sure to appreciate some rolls down the hill, which Gus joined in on (haha). I sadly could not get a photo or video in time, but Ipromise it was some good entertainment. Glad we could Adventure to the Hartley Mason Reserve/Park (Rating: 3),

November 2023 (Late Post) – Bohenko Gateway Park – New Hampshire

This month Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Bohenko Gateway Park in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Bohenko Gateway Park is a small roadside park that includes a pavilion, informational kiosks, and views of the Piscataqua River. There are plans to install sculptures in the park, in the near future.

We had a simple Adventure to the Bohenko Gateway Park on a dark New England day. There was no parking directly for this location, so we parked at a nearby church. The Park was very small, but we took our time looking for little signs of color, heading down to the river, reviewing the kiosks, and even located one sculpture. We made sure to explore all the walking paths before heading off toward our next location. Glad we could check out the Bohenko Gateway Park (this Park will not be rated).

Weekly Video/Photo

If you follow my blog regularly please skip down to paragraph three….

The weekly Video/Photo section highlights an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments. If you have followed my blog from the beginning you know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year after his passing we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were devastated to lose Shadow on April 3, 2020.These two precious boys will be furever in our hearts! We were recently thrilled to add another amazing rescue, Gus, to our home on June 28, 2021! This Weekly Video/Photo section will allow me to share photos from all four of my rescues, whether it be a precious memory, or a current moment.

Today’s photo is a snapshot of Buster taking a nap on big brother Shadow. These two boys were probably the cuddliest of my pairs, just a year apart and both with similar energy as youngers. I often caught them curled up with each other, which will always melted by heart. He had a short life due to his brain tumor, but we definitely enjoyed every moment. Here he is:

November 10, 2023 – “Sense of Place” – Massachusetts

Today Gus and I Adventured to the “Sense of Place” art exhibit in Lexington, Massachusetts. The “Sense of Place” is a public art display sponsored through the Lexington Council for the Arts. This exhibit is made up of sculptures inspired by Lexington architecture and can be found along the Minuteman Bikeway. My contact with the Lexington Council for the Arts indicates it will soon be removed.

We had an art filled Adventure to the “Sense of Place”. I was planning on doing a daytrip today but due to a long and stressful work week I decided to keep it simple. As you may know if you follow my blog, it has been quite the adventure getting Wilma into the car, although she is completely comfy once she gets in. Today Wilma retreated to the back room upon realizing the plan, and knowing I had a long weekend, and we were just going on a local walk, I decided to let her choose a nap. I felt guilty but knew I would observe her sleeping soundly on the camera, and also would be providing Gus an independent opportunity. I think this is important for Gus as he really does rely on his confident big sister. So off Gus and I went…

We have seen the “Sense of Place” before, but never stopped to read, nor taken the time to take photographs and blog. There were not a large number of sculptures, but they were all unique. My favorite was the “Home Sweet Homes”, a concrete and tile work, designed by Silvina Mizrahi. Each of the sculptures had their own write-up giving details about the artist, and their creation. In addition to checking out the “Sense of Place” sculptures we spent a little over an hour walking on the Minuteman Bikeway. As we trotted, I searched for color and texture to capture our walk. Gus was a little nervous throughout this adventure but enjoyed all the smells along the way. There was some construction in the area which he did not appreciate, besides being without Wilma. However, overall, a successful walk. Glad we could enjoy the “Sense of Place” displays (This blog will not be rated).

Today’s photo is a snapshot of Gus in Franconia, New Hampshire from last month. It was taken on the bicycle trail at the parking for the Basin. We spent some of our time on this path, drawn in by the oranges of the season. Gus was posing brilliantly on this large and scenic rock, a perfect photograph for this week’s Weekly Photo. Here is my handsome boy:

November 2, 2023 – Endless Leaves

This weekend we spent our time on local walks each day, and in our yard filled with endless leaves. Wilma and Gus loved running and playing through the leaves; however, both were hesitant to get into a pile for posing. I am not sure what they thought a pile would involve, yet surprisingly Gus was the brave one. And although my plan was to stay local, partly to rake and work in my yard, I spent more time putzing around and doing other simple projects (haha). Although my yard is far from grand, I am so thankful my dogs have always had this fenced in area full of squirrels, dog beds, and love. I guess we will figure out what to do with all the leaves on another day. Hope your Fall weekend was a good one!

Today’s photo is a snapshot of puppy Shadow after he had gotten in some mischief. If I remember correctly, he had some good entertainment with a large plant. I find this especially funny as I always think of Shadow as my most well-behaved dog, although he did have his expected moments as a puppy. This photograph makes me smile! I sure do miss him! October 27, 2023 – Beaver Brook Falls – New Hampshire

Yesterday, Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Beaver Brook Falls in Colebrook, New Hampshire. Beaver Brook Falls is a 80-foot horsetail waterfall. It is located on a less then 8-acre property with short trails, and picnic benches. It sources the Beaver Brook River.

We had a roaring Adventure to the Beaver Brook Falls. I was very excited to check-out this Falls as it has been on my list for some time. We arrived to find one car leaving, and the area all to ourselves. We could see the waterfall from the parking lot, but of course headed closer to check out the views. Immediately through the picnic area there was a small scenic bridge that guided us toward the trails. We spent our time checking out all the trails we could find and getting as close possible. It was just gorgeous, the Falls singing. We probably lucked out with all the recent rain as I would guess on a “normal” Fall day it might not be quite as much water. So glad we could visit Beaver Brooks Falls, it definitely did not disappoint (Rating: 5).

October 27, 2023 – Swift River Bridge – New Hampshire

Yesterday, Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Swift River Bridge in North Conway, New Hampshire. The Swift River Bridge was built in 1870 and traverses the Swift River. The Bridge is now a pedestrian bridge, complete with picnic benches.

We had a rock-filled Adventure to the Swift River Bridge. Although I have been there before, I had not yet blogged about it on previous visits. We arrived barely before dusk. We immediately headed below to appreciate the Swift River. The route down was a little unsteady, especially with the leaves covering the path, but we made it without incident. If you have not been there the Swift River is absolutely beautiful! The water is clear, and the rocks round, always so scenic. There were leaves in the water adding a lovely touch to the Fall scene. Down the River we could see the Saco River Bridge, with the sun setting in the background, so pretty. We walked around, exploring the pups sipping water along the way.

After exploring below the bridge, we headed back to the bridge and trotted through, appreciating the scenic view of the river through the lattices. By the time we left it was dark…the day went by so quickly. So glad we could visit the Swift River Bridge (Rating: 4).
