July 6, 2024 – Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard – Massachusetts

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard in Walpole, Massachusetts. Rita’s is a privately owned restaurant chain. It originated in Philadelphia, but now can be found in various states. Rita’s carries Italian ice, custard, and various other frozen goodies. There is only one location of Rita’s in Massachusetts.

We had a delicious Adventure to Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard. I was excited to find a Rita’s in Massachusetts, and with a drive through! Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard brings back happy memories of my college days (in Pennsylvania) where we would go for 75 cent Italian Ice treats. Boy have times changed as it was far from 75 cents. However, I was still thrilled to enjoy this frozen treat.

We arrived to find no one else in line, so I decided to utilize the outdoor window. I ordered a watermelon gelati and ordered the pups a small custard. Rita’s did have an option for a “pup cup” (whip cream) as well, but since Wilma and Gus have had several recently (shhh 🙂 ) I figured we would change things up. The location was very simple, but I was not there for the scene, but instead the treats. I decided to go to a nearby grassy area for the pups to devour their custard, just with a little more space, and away from the road. They loved their custards, as you may expect! My watermelon gelati was beyond amazing – probably the best desert I have ever had – just delicious! Although I wish Rita’s was closer, it probably is a good thing that it is not (haha). So glad we could enjoy Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard, while I could reminisce (Rating: Location and Dog Ice Cream – 4, Watermelon Gelati – 5)

Sadly I got Ice Cream on my phone “lense” and did not realize it until afterwards, but I had to include something of Wilma and Gus enjoying their custard, so you will have to settle for a fuzzy video today 🙂

Happy July 4th!!

Happy July 4th from Wilma and Gus!! We had a quiet day which included a short walk, pup cups, backyard relaxing, and naps. Of course we had to spend some time posing, although Gus really was not feeling it, so it really was the Wilma show today (haha)! We are dreading the neighborhood fireworks but hope it will be a stress-free evening.

Happy 4th to all our family and friends!!

Weekly Video/Photo

The weekly Video/Photo section highlights an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments. If you have followed my blog from the beginning you know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year after his passing we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were devastated to lose Shadow on April 3, 2020.These two precious boys will be furever in our hearts! We were recently thrilled to add another amazing rescue, Gus, to our home on June 28, 2021! This Weekly Video/Photo section will allow me to share photos from all four of my rescues, whether it be a precious memory, or a current moment.

Today’s photograph is from Wilma yesterday at Wickham Park in Connecticut. I have been to this park three times, and it is just beautiful. I did not blog about it yesterday as I have blogged about it previously. Gus was not feeling posing at this moment, so I figured I would catch Wilma’s smile in this snapshot. Is she not just adorable?! Here she is:

Oh, and I figured I would share our blog from our last trip to Wickham Park, last year as it really captured its beauty:

July 1, 2024 – Ferry Landing State Park – Connecticut

Today, Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Ferry Landing State Park in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Ferry Landing State Park is a small, shoreline park, with a short boardwalk. It provides views of the Connecticut River and is popular for picnicking, fishing, and crabbing. There is no cost to enter this, Park.

We had a simple Adventure to Ferry Landing State Park, one of our four adventure today. I did not expect much, reading the reviews, however it was even smaller than I imagined. We arrived to find a nice breeze, several ladies painting, and few other visitors. We trotted around and enjoyed views of the water and bridges from across the river. Both Wilma and Gus seemed eager to explore, and of course Wilma celebrated this new adventure with some happy rolls. Our Adventure ended quickly and unexpectantly when a commuter rail loudly crashed across the bridge sending Gus into a panic. Luckily it went by quickly, but he could not calm himself, until he jumped into the car. Thankfully that appeared to instantly bring him back to a feeling of safety. Such a bummer of a moment for this sweet guy, however no ongoing issues as he enjoyed our next location as if the moment had not occurred. So glad we could check out this simple little park today (Rating: 3).

July 1, 2024 – Mark Twain House – Connecticut

Today, Wilma, Gus and I Adventured to the Mark Twain House in Hartford, Connecticut. Mark Twain was the author of many famous books including: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. Mark Twain was his pen name, while is birth name was Samuel Clemens. Mark Twain and his wife Livy had their home built in 1984. The home measures 11500 square feet and has 25 rooms. They later sold the home in 1903. The grounds also contain gardens, maintained by the University of Connecticut Master Gardeners and volunteers.

We had a unique Adventure to the Mark Twain house, one of our four adventures of the day. As you may expect this Adventure just included the gardens, and grounds as I am sure the museum was not dog friendly. The home was located in a beautiful area of Hartford. The sun was shining, and the sky bright blue, just a perfect way to start our day. The home was absolutely gorgeous and quite unique with character. I was disappointed that the sun’s location impacted some of the photography of the building, however, hopefully you can still get an idea of what a distinctive residence Twain created. There were endless lilies and some little paths and trails around the home. The pups enjoyed walking around, Wilma appreciated some rolling down the hill (yes really -haha), and Gus was trying to figure out some of the new city sounds. And although we were not able to go inside, I was still excited to check out this home I had been curious about for some time. So glad we could visit the home of Mark Twain today (this blog will not be rated).

June 25, 2024 – White Mountains – New Hampshire

Yesterday, Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The White Mountains are a mountain range that cover a large part of New Hampshire, and also a portion of western Maine. The White Mountains include 48 peaks at over 4,000 feet. The White Mountains are popular for skiing, hiking, and ATVing.

We had a green and mountain filled Adventure to the White Mountains, our first daytrip of summer vacation. You will see I blogged about two of our adventures of the day separately (Scoops on the Main, and the Bump Covered Bridge) but could not resist putting together a collage of our entire day. If you follow my blog you are aware that I love visiting the White Mountains, one of the most beautiful places in New England. Our day today included: Campton, Bartlett, Hart’s Location, Lancaster, Littleton, and Bethlehem. Both Wilma and Gus appreciated some rolls, naps in the shade, and tasty ice cream! They even waded in the water, an unusual activity for them both! I loved the gorgeous scenery, colorful wildflowers, and hanging with my two best buds. It was a little warmer than I expected, so we did not do anything too intense, as I wanted to make sure the pups were comfortable and cool. So glad our first summer adventure is in the books! June 25, 2024 – Scoops On Main – New Hampshire

Yesterday, Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Scoops on Main in Lancaster, New Hampshire. Scoops On Main services ice cream, soft serve, and various other ice cream products. They are open seven days a week.

We had a delicious Adventure to Scoops on Main. It was a simple stop, but yet had a variety of creative and colorful decorations that caught my attention. I was thrilled to find they had dog “sundaes”, and I ordered a root beer float for myself. I guess I am not always too original with my selection of ice cream products, but I wanted to keep moving on our adventures (versus stopping to eat). The root beer float was very tasty and had a good quantity of ice cream, which I find is not always the case. The pups loved their “sundae”, and as usual I was entertained as they licked down their snack. So glad we could adventure to Scoops on Main today (Rating: 4).

June 25, 2024 – Bump Covered Bridge – New Hampshire

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Bump Covered Bridge in Campton, New Hampshire. The Bump Bridge was originally built in 1877 and spans the Beebe River. It was restored in 1972 after it had deteriorated over the years.

We had a simple Adventure to the Bump Covered Bridge. I had not realized I had been there before until returning home, and checking the blog, but since that was five years ago, and it was Gus’ first visit I figured why not blog again! The Bridge was in a nice quiet area, no nearby homes. The foliage was very grown around this simple bridge, adding some nice color. I did not see any obvious way to make it to the water, so we just appreciated the bridge from atop. So glad to adventure to the Bump Bridge today (Rating 3.5)

Today’s video is one from Wilma enjoying a pup cup yesterday – yum! I for some reason find these types of videos absolutely adorable – hope it brings a smile to your face today! Here she is devouring her fancy treat:

Today’s photograph is from Wilma at Bancroft Tower in Worcester, Massachusetts back in 2020. Bancroft Tower is more what I would call a castle but is listed as a “tower”. It’s a lovely, and regal structure. Such a perfect pose from this girl! If you have not yet been to Bancroft Tower, make sure you check it out! Here she is:
