June 15, 2024 – A Day in Maine

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I spent a very full day of Adventures in Maine. We went to many new locations, and some of our favorites including Fort Williams Park. I was on the search for lupines, and was thrilled to find endless color. We enjoyed the State House and Capital Park (also blogged about this separately), views in the Rangeley Lakes, a covered bridge, and various stops along the way. So glad we could fit in a nice, long day trip before the heat wave arrives. Below you will see a collage from the lovely day in Maine.

June 15, 2024 – Maine State House and Capitol Park – Maine

Yesterday, Wilma, Gus, and I went to the Maine State House and Capitol Park in Augusta, Maine. The Capital was built in 1832 from Maine granite after Maine separated from Massachusetts. Across the street you can find Capital Park, a green space, trails, and a memorial(s) that was originally developed in 1827.

We had a green Adventure to the Maine State House and Capitol Park. I was surprised to arrive at the State House to an empty parking lot, but I guess it was the weekend, and a small city compared to that of Boston or other more metropolitan locations. We first walked around the State House, the grass perfectly mowed, and the State house just lovely. I was not sure if we could enter on the gross inside the fence, so walked just outside it on the sidewalk. We walked, posed, checked on some small gardens, and of course Wilma enjoyed some grassy naps in any attempt she had!

After checking out the State House we crossed the street to Capitol Park. I was surprised to find very few people. The grass and trees were bright green in color, several trails around and through the park. We walked and Wilma made sure more shady resting occurred. It was quiet and peaceful, although one main road nearby. So glad we could check out the State House and Capitol Park yesterday (Rating: 4).

Weekly Video/Photo

The weekly Video/Photo section highlights an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments. If you have followed my blog from the beginning you know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year after his passing we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were devastated to lose Shadow on April 3, 2020.These two precious boys will be furever in our hearts! We were recently thrilled to add another amazing rescue, Gus, to our home on June 28, 2021! This Weekly Video/Photo section will allow me to share photos from all four of my rescues, whether it be a precious memory, or a current moment.

Today’s photo is one of Buster enjoying the smells out the window. I do not even remember this photograph, but I smiled when I found it today! He looks like quite the happy camper off to a new adventure. Wish I had started this blog before he passed, but quite thankful to have snapshots to remember many of our outings. He was one happy boy and sure is missed! Here he is:

June 9, 2024 – Erikson’s Ice Cream – Massachusetts

Today Wilma, Gus, and I adventured to Erikson’s Ice Cream in Maynard, Massachusetts. Erikson’s Ice Cream is a family run business founded in 1937. Erikson’s sells ice cream, vegan ice cream, and other ice cream related products.

We had a delicious adventure to Erikson’s Ice Cream. I have been craving ice cream this weekend and today was finally the day! We headed out in the middle of the rain as my plan was to avoid the crowds, and surprisingly we found not one other customer there. The grounds and landscaping of Erikson’s was very simple, but there was seating with umbrellas available. I actually arrived in the middle of a downpour so ran to the covered window as the pups waited eagerly in the car. I ordered a coffee ice cream with whip cream and two dog ice creams. The dog ice creams were very tiny but had a scrumptious treat in the middle and were free!! I was hoping to have the dogs come out of the car to eat but as it was pouring that plan did not occur. However, both Wilma and Gus devoured the delicious desert and had not one complaint (haha)! My coffee ice cream was delicious- yum! So glad we could have our first ice cream of the soon to be summer today at Erikson’s Ice Cream! (This blog will not be rated)

Today’s photo is one of Shadow at Campbell Falls in Norwalk, Connecticut back in 2017. We actually climbed halfway up so this photograph is just part of the waterfall. It was a busy day of hiking and exploring and this was one of our adventures. Shadow was definitely the king of waterfalls. I sure do miss this hiking buddy…so glad we had many special hikes to remember! Here he is:

Today’s photograph is from this weekend. We had a wonderful weekend full of gardening, backyard time, kayaking, and family. It was a beautiful weekend, something that has not happened in Massachusetts for some time. Wilma and Gus enjoyed playing with one another, sunbathing, chasing squirrels, new bones, ice cream, naps and lots of love from Grandma and Grandpa. It was a wonderful weekend! This photo captures Gus in the middle of a nap on the dog couch, he was sound asleep. He is just adorable, don’t you agree?!

May 25, 2024 – Kayaking – Long Lake, Massachusetts

Today Gus and I Adventured to Long Lake in Littleton, Massachusetts for our first kayak trip of the season. Long Lake is a 113 acre Great Pond with depths between 8-22 feet. There is a sandy beach, conservation trails around part of the lake, and homes on several sides of the lake. There is a boat launch next to the beach.

We had a refreshing adventure to Long Lake. Long Lake has a special place to me as we frequented often as children, and it is where I learned to swim. I also have enjoyed the trails, especially with Shadow as he loved the water. Upon arrival I was told the beach facilities were closing so I did not have to purchase a day pass – yay! As soon as I sat in the kayak Gus jumped into my lap and off, we went.

Our kayaking adventure was just right. The Lake is not too big so there was plenty of time to explore every part of the water. The farther we got from the beach the quieter it got, we heard birds, frogs, and the occasional voice from across the water. We saw one turtle, lots of yellow lilies, endless green foliage, and birds. It was so relaxing, and even Gus seemed quite at peace, he really loves being on the water. So glad we could head out on our first kayaking trip of the year today (Rating: 4).

Today’s video is one that not only involves the dogs being extra well behaved, but an adorable surprise in nature. I have never seen anything like this, and although the video really does not capture it well, I thought I would share it. Make sure you watch until the end and hope it brings a smile to your face as it did to mine. Here it is:

May 10, 2024 – Tip Top Tulips – Massachusetts

Tonight, Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Tip Top Tulips. Tip Top Tulips is a seasonal event on Felix’s Family Farm in Ipswitch, Massachusetts. Tickets are required for this Tulip event and can be purchased online for $12. Tulips can also be picked for an additional $1 each.

We had a refreshing Adventure to Tip Top Tulips. Wilma and Gus arrived with a loud greeting in the car, partially due to the check-in being next to endless farm animals. However, I appreciated that the Farm was not phased and after that moment we had a peaceful evening, staying far from the animals. The Tulip Garden was absolutely gorgeous with endless colors, and scenic photo ops. It was overall quiet, and we only saw one other dog in the garden. We spent about an hour and a half walking around. The pups posed and enjoyed endless bites of grass (haha!). We arrive at about 6:30 and left when the sun went down. It just lovely, and although the weather was cool it was just perfect for an evening walk. I did not want to leave as it was just right! So glad we could visit Tip Top Tulips at Felix Farm, and grateful they allowed dogs (Rating: 5).
