November 25, 2021 – Coast Guard Beach – Massachusetts

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, Massachusetts, part of Cape Cod. Coast Guard Beach is the start of twenty miles of sandy beaches. It received its name from the old coast guard building which sits above the dunes. It is a popular swimming destination, and in-season only allows parking for local residents, however provides shuttle services from nearby parking.

We had a magnificent Adventure to Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, Massachusetts. Since our family is celebrating Thanksgiving on Saturday this year I decided it would be a good day to visit the Cape. I was surprised to arrive to a crowded scene at Coast Guard Beach. We found some trails high above the tunes that we explored a bit before heading down to the shore.

There were many people wandering onto the beach, but I was relieved that once on the shore everyone was spread out. Dogs are required to be on leash, but to be expected not all followed these guidelines. The ocean was beautiful in color, crashing and singing into shore. The sky was bright blue and the dunes lined the shore, just gorgeous. We walked and walked enjoy the serenity. It was Gus’ first true beach experience. He loved finding crab shells, crab legs, shells, and digging with big sister Wilma. Wilma loved her regular, chaotic digs and continually wanted to play with Gus. The Beach had an endless variety of rocks formed in unique shapes, colors, and texture. We explored and trotted along, not wanting the Adventure to end. It was a perfect day! So glad we could visit Coast Guard Beach (Rating: 5).

Throwback Adventure – Great Common Island – New Hampshire

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow. This has been a therapeutic process for me to share. We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”. They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

In April 2015 Shadow, Buster, and I Adventured to Great Common Island in New Castle, New Hampshire. Great Common Island is a 32 acre park with beaches and green space. As expected it is popular for swimming and picnicking.

We had a beach-filled Adventure to Great Common Island. I enjoyed exploring this location and was intrigued to spot two lighthouses – Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse and Whaleback Lighthouse. We wandered and sniffed (haha) around appreciating our new surroundings. There was driftwood, shells, tidal pools, and lots of rocks along the shore. It was a beautiful day with the clouds reflecting on the sea. Shadow and Buster appeared quite chill loving the tranquility of the shore. Another special beach Adventure to cherish with my boys (Throwback blogs will not always be rated).

April 25, 2020 – Craigville Beach – Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Craigville Beach in Barnstable, Massachusetts, part of Cape Cod. Craigville Beach is a public beach located on Nantucket Sound. There is a daily parking fee required in-season. As expected Craigville Beach is popular for swimming, sunbathing, walking and socializing.

We had a colorful Adventure to Craigville Beach as we arrived bright and early to admire the sunrise. I was relieved upon arrival to find an empty beach, although several visitors were noted to be sitting in cars. Immediately we headed to the water’s edge, and heard sounds of birds, and the waves, a peaceful oasis. Wilma was absolutely thrilled to be at the beach, often darting back and forth trying to run. We walked along the shore, peaked at shells, and appreciated the full sensory experience. Wilma participated in some chaotic digging, and appeared quite brave entering the water, seeming to understand the term “go swimming” meant to head toward the water. I thought about our beach bum Shadow trotting by our side, he would have been so happy to enjoy a beach morning. Glad he had so many Adventures to the beach. We spent about an hour at the beach, as we relished some coastal therapy. Such a peaceful morning at Craigsville Beach (Rating: 3.5)

Throwback Adventure – Hopkington State Park – Massachusetts

I will have sections of my blog that I will title “Throwback Adventure”, and will plan on posting them every Thursday. These are journeys we have taken before I started the blog, but are well worth sharing. Many of these Throwback Adventures will include our Buster, who was known for his crazy tail, his happy howl, and his zest for life. We miss him dearly…he is forever in our hearts!

Hopkington State Park is a Park located in Hopkington, Massachusetts. It is located on the Hopkington Reservoir, no longer a water source. The Park encompasses 1500 acres of forest and is a popular area for boating, swimming, and hiking. There is a fee to enter the Park in-season but Massachusetts State Park passes are also accepted.

Shadow, Buster, and I had numerous Adventures to Hopkington State Park, and on some visits My Mom joined us, while on one occasion my cousin and her pup joined us as well. We have always gone in phases with local Parks, and for several years this was one of our favorites. Although dogs were not allowed on the public beach (in-season), we always found side areas to swim. Over time we found favorite spots away from the hustle and bustle of a popular beach location. The Reservoir was beautiful, framed by colorful kayaks, and docks. I loved the view of the circular island not too far out from shore. We mostly visited Hopkington State Park to swim, but on one occasion I went kayaking, while several times enjoyed some of the trails. We really have loved our Adventures to Hopkington State Park, and will definitely have to take Wilma to check out the scene. I gathered some photos from various visits, and although I am sure I have more, I think it is a good representation of our time spent at Hopkington State Park. We definitely will be back for a future Adventure (Rating: 4).
