October 2, 2021 – Coastal Maine

Today Wilma, Gus and I adventured to Coastal Maine. I decided instead of finding a new spot we would visit some of our favorites and also stop spontaneously along the way. The favorites of our day included: The Fisherman’s Walk, the Wiggly Bridge, Nubble Lighthouse, and Fort Williams Park which includes the Portland Head Lighthouse, and the Goddard mansion. In addition we stopped at York Beach and a colorful pumpkin sale and from there decided to walk around York Village and the Old York Historical Society. It was a dark cloudy day, and it sprinkled but yet it was the perfect Fall temperature. Throughout the day we spent five hours walking, and posed for numerous photographs. I was surprised that the leaves were hardly changing even in Maine but the scenery was still perfect with the end of summer flowers, rocky coast, beaches, and landmarks including lighthouses and ruins. Gus loved finding leftover crabs from the seagulls and sticks along the path while Wilma especially enjoyed digging in the sand and jumping from rock to rock. It really was another wonderful day with my two special adventurers. Below you will see a collage of all of the locations from the day.

Throwback Adventure

I have decided to make some changes to my Throwback section. This is partly because I have had the blog for about three years and each week I have posted an Adventure from before I started the blog. This has become more challenging between finding old photographs, and identifying the location. Although I will still be adding some here and and there I thought I would also use the Throwback Adventure to share past Adventures I have posted. I have new followers, and of course not every follower has been able to view all blogs. This Throwback blog will also allow me an opportunity to share special memories of my boys, Shadow and Buster who have passed. They began my life of wonderful adventures with my rescues, and will be furever in our hearts!

Today’s Throwback is Adventure is one I took with Wilma over two years ago to the Boston Garden. It was a hot summer day so Shadow was hanging out at the Grandma and Grandpa spa while Wilma went on this solo Adventure. The Boston Garden can be a beautiful place, especially in the summer. It is filled with flowers, greenery, statues, and some water, even hosting the swan boats. Wilma absolutely loved the city squirrels which is the first thing that I remember when I think of this Adventure – it sure was a wild one (haha!) The Weekly Video/Photo section highlights an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments. If you have followed my blog from the beginning you know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year after his passing we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were devastated to loose Shadow on April 3, 2020.  These two precious boys boys will be furever in our hearts! We were recently thrilled to add another amazing rescue, Gus, to our home on June 28, 2021! This Weekly Video/Photo section will allow me to share photos from all four of my rescues, whether it be a precious memory, or a current moment.

Today’s photograph is a selfie I took of Shadow, Wilma, and myself….not an easy task! Although slightly blurry I absolutely adore this photograph and it reminds me of a special trip I had with them in Acadia. I am grateful that I have had three amazing pairs of pups. Shadow was my gentle giant, and sometimes Gus remind me a little of him, although Gus is far from a giant (haha)! So glad I have this selfie to treasure forever.

September 25, 2021 – Lenox, Massachusetts

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Lenox, Massachusetts. Lenox is a town in the Berkshire Hills of Western, Massachusetts. Lenox is a popular tourist destination with numerous Inns throughout the town. It is also well known for the Tanglewood music venue, Edith Wharton Estate, being the home of Boston Symphony Orchestra, and as the Site of the Shakespeare Company.

We had a simple Adventure to the town of Lenox, Massachusetts. I was quite disappointed as my plan was to go to the Mount, Edith Wharton Estate, but it was closed for a private event. Therefore I went to a back-up plan and decided to wander the town of Lenox, Massachusetts. We spent about 1.5 hours walking and trying to find every little aspect along the way. We found numerous churches, and Inns, and some shops and restaurants. The architecture was beautiful and there were lots of flowers and spectacular landscaping. It appeared to be quite a wealthy location. I was surprised that there were so many Inn’s and so little other things to do, well at least directly in the center of town. Even though I was quite disappointed not to get to the Mount, we were glad to find a location for a new destination for a long walk. So glad we could check out Lenox, Massachusetts (Rating: This blog will not be rated).

September 25, 2021 – Martin Van Buren National Historic Site – New York

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Martin Van Buren National Historic Site in Kinderhook, New York. The Martin Van Buren Historic Site preserves the Lindenwald Estate, and the mansion of the eight president of the United States, Martin Van Buren. Tours are available of the home, and nature trails surround the property. Pets are not allowed in the home, and are allowed on the Whipple Loop Trail only.

We had a historic Adventure to the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site. I was excited to find this location, planning our day around the Taconic Sculpture Park. We arrived to find the outdoor visitor center and were directed toward the Whipple Loop Trail. For those visiting with dogs, this trail pretty much gives you full access to the property. We headed off on the loop, stopping at the various landmarks along the way. It was a beautiful day, but still a little warm so we appreciated the shade. The grass was bright green, and the trees lovely, centered by the mansion of Martin Van Buren. We walked and took our time on this Site. Gus loved finding sticks, while Wilma appreciated more grassy rolls. Except for the nearby highway it was a very quiet and peaceful location. So glad we could visit the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site (Rating: 4).

September 25, 2021 – Taconic Sculpture Park – New York

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Taconic Sculpture Park in Chatham, New York. The Taconic Sculpture Park highlights the work of artist Roy Kanwit. The property has over 30 sculptures hand made by Kanwit from material including: cement, marble, and limestone. The sculptures are on his three acres of property. The entrance fee to the Park is $10.

We had an art filled Adventure to the Taconic Sculpture Park. We were greeted by Mrs. Kanwit who gave us some background and information about the Park. It was a nice personal touch to start our visit. We then trotted off to explore this lovely Park on a hill. There were sculptures in different directions, all unique and lovely. There were beautiful wildflowers across the hill, and numerous monarch butterflies, unfortunately too fast for me to capture. We walked and explored making sure not to miss a sculpture or a sight. Gus loved pouncing on whatever he was seeing in the long grass (haha) while Wilma enjoyed many rolls. It was definitely a happy experience for all three of us! I especially love the sculptures of the faces and heads. The largest one actually had a ladder in it that you could climb to the top but of course that would not work for the pups so we skipped this unique feature. Although the Park was small I really just loved it, so many creative sculptures to see. So glad we could get to the Taconic Sculpture Park (Rating: 4).

Today’s photograph is one I took in Plymouth of Wilma and Gus just several weeks ago. We spent several hours walking around this scenic town, and this was one of my favorite poses of the day. It definitely is a beautiful coastal location. Here they are:

September 18, 2021 – Brookfield Orchards – Massachusetts

Today Wilma, Gus, My Mom and I Adventured to Brookfield Orchards in Brookfield, Massachusetts. Brookfield Orchards has been family owned since 1918. As expected there is a large orchard for apple picking. Brookfield Orchards also has a playground for children, a Country Store with baked good, and offer hay rides.

We had a warm Adventure to Brookfield Orchards. Although my ideal day for apple picking is not a hot one, today was the day I had it planned, so we did not let a warmer day stop us. I was quite happy to hear about this new dog friendly orchard. Upon arrival I was shocked and disappointed to find it incredibly crowded, endless cars parked in various lots. I did not expect an orchard in a quiet, country town to be such a tourist destination, however we had arrived so we continued on our Adventure. We started with apple picking which of course was our main plan for the adventure. I believe there were three different available apples, but although I love apple picking annually I am not particular about types. We walked through the orchard, picking apples and taking photographs. I was a little bit of a slacker on the apple picking (thanks Mom), as we were sharing the same bag. There were endless apples and rows of trees, and of course people everywhere. We just about filled our bag, before we decided to finish our apple picking.

After apple picking I walked around with the pups while Mom visited the Country Store. We found some nice shade to wait and rest. Throughout our adventure both Wilma and Gus enjoyed endless rolls, grass chewing, and Wilma made sure to keep an eye on her Grandma’s every move! The pups were quite warm so I did not put too much energy into posing. It was fun watching Gus check out the apples, even occasionally picking one up in his mouth, maybe a ball? (haha). Although definitely too much of a hectic scene for Wilma and I we still enjoyed trotting through the orchard and completing our traditional annual apple picking adventure. Off to make apple crisp! So glad we could check out Brookfield Orchards today (Rating: 4).

Today’s Throwback Adventure is from the Long Trail in Vermont, almost two years ago. Shadow, Wilma, My Parents and I Adventured to this Trail, which I found while waterfall chasing. It was amazingly gorgeous on a perfect Fall day. Even better both of my parents joined us on this adventure, making it just right. Today’s photograph is one of myself and sweet Shadow, my gentle giant, back from 2016. We were on vacation in the White Mountains and were at a balcony restaurant on a rainy day. I am so lucky that I had 12 amazing years with this boy. Glad that I have endless photos to remember him, like today’s photograph.
