March 29, 2025-March 30, 2025 – A mini weekend/night in Cape Cod

Wilma, Gus, My Mom, and I spent two days and a night in Cape Cod this weekend. Cape Cod is a peninsula in the Atlantic Ocean off the southeastern corner of Massachusetts. It is a popular summer destination known for the laid-back lifestyle. Cape Cod draws tourists for its beaches, lighthouses, ponds, villages, and the seafood shacks and restaurants.

If you follow my blog you know Wilma will be having knee surgery, so we had some simple and short stops but mostly relaxed at our amazing Airbnb. Our Airbnb was dog friendly (of course) with a fenced in yard, dog toy box, water bowls and lots of little aspects that appreciated our favorite furry friends! Besides that, it was absolutely gorgeous and even had a hot tub. We definitely plan on returning to this special spot!

On our journey our little stops in the Cape, included: Ned’s Point Lighthouse, beaches, Scargo Tower, the Baxter Grist Mill, and Salty the Seahorse. Throughout the weekend, Wilma and Gus especially appreciated comfy naps, and digging in the sand. Wilma enjoyed her rolls and requested regular belly rubs (haha!), while Gus continually sought out cuddles. We have not been out too much due to Wilma’s arthritis, and knee injury, so it was nice to find a simple and refreshing getaway that was just right for ALL. Here is a collage from our weekend:

March 9, 2024 – Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

We had a cloudy, yet well-needed Adventure to Cape Cod. It had been awhile since we have been on a day trip so we were long ready for some fun! Our stops today included: the Sagamore Recreation Area, Drummer Boy Park, Scargo Tower, Nauset Light, Coast Guard Beach, Sandwich Center, and a nameless beach along Provincetown Harbor. We started our day with a long walk along the Cape Cod Canal Bike Trail. Although the scenery is simple on the Canal, it is the perfect place for a stroll. From there we went from stop to stop enjoying the fresh air and exploring, taking photographs, and of course posing grandly (haha!) Our favorite parts were strolling on the beaches, and exploring the leftover shells, crabs, and creatures. Both pups were immediately energized on the beach, Wilma running in circles and trying to play, while Gus digging wildly, so fun to watch. Although I would not consider myself a huge fan of Cape Cod, I can say that the beaches with dunes are beyond spectacular. So glad we could enjoy a daytrip in Cape Cod today (this blog will not be rated).

September 24, 2022 – Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

We had a refreshing Adventure to Cape Cod today. It was a gorgeous, windy day, and a lovely day to be on the coast. We stopped at many locations, but our main Adventures included: Chatham Lighthouse Beach, Chatham Lighthouse, Highland Lighthouse, The Cape Cod Rail Trail, the town of Sandwich, Jackknife Cove Beach, the Chatham Godrey Windmill, and a gorgeous no-name beach along Providence Harbor. We started our day arriving at the end of sunrise, and continued long after finding various spots, some planned, and some located along the route. My favorite parts of the day were: the gorgeous water in the Provincetown Harbor, the sand dunes, and strolling along the shore. Wilma loved some rolls, while both pups enjoyed some digging, and finding new smells on the beach. It was just the kind of day I needed today. So glad to Adventure to Cape Code today (this blog will not be rated).

September 24, 2022 – Chatham Lighthouse – Massachusetts

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Chatham Lighthouse in Chatham, Massachusetts, part of Cape Cod. The Chatham Lighthouse is a working Lighthouse operated by the Coast Guard. It was originally built as twin lighthouses in 1808, being replaced in 1841, and later separated from the “twin” in 1923. The Lighthouse is only open to the public on days when tours are scheduled, however can be viewed from outside the security gate.

We had a sunrising Adventure to the Chatham Lighthouse. We arrived finding it blocked off as expected, but yet pleased that a view was still available through the fencing. We walked around and checked out the Lighthouse from various angles and crossed the street to admire the sunrise and the gorgeous beach below. The Lighthouse was far from picturesque yet unique in its own way. Due to the limited access, it was a short Adventure. However, since it was our first visit to the Lighthouse, I figured I would blog about it separately so it could be included in our Lighthouse category. Keep watching as there will soon be a blog on our entire day trip to Cape Cod today. So glad we could cross another Lighthouse from our list (This blog will not be rated).

Throwback Adventure – Nauset Lighthouse/Nauset Beach Lighthouse – Massachusetts

I will have sections of my blog that I will title “Throwback Adventure”, and will plan on posting them every Thursday. These are journeys we have taken before I started the blog, but are well worth sharing. Many of these Throwback Adventures will include our Buster, who was known for his crazy tail, his happy howl, and his zest for life. We miss him dearly…he is forever in our hearts!

In April of 2017 Shadow, My Mom, and I Adventured to the Nauset Lighthouse (also referred to as the Nauset Beach Lighthouse) in Eastham, Massachusetts, part of Cape Cod.  The Nauset Lighthouse was restored and relocated back in 1923.  The Nauset Light Preservation Society currently maintains the Lighthouse and through private donations funded the restoration and relocation of the lighthouse.  The Lighthouse has benches nearby and is located adjacent to the Nauset Light Beach.

We had a dark spring-day Adventure to the Nauset Lighthouse, one of the many stops on a getaway to Cape Cod.  I always am pleased to find a Lighthouse with unique features, and the Nauset Lighthouse definitely did not disappoint.  We wandered up to the Lighthouse and around, glad to find the spot all to ourselves.  It was a brown spring day but the bright red on the Lighthouse added the perfect touch.  We located a photo frame nearby of which you could pose with the Lighthouse, a fun little feature for tourists and Adventurists like ourselves.  A delightful visit to the Nauset Lighthouse (Rating:  4).

Throwback Adventure – Nickerson State Park – Massachusetts

I will have sections of my blog that I will title “Throwback Adventure”, and will plan on posting them every Thursday. These are journeys we have taken before I started the blog, but are well worth sharing.

In April of 2014, Shadow, Buster, My Mom and I Adventured to Nickerson State Park in Brewster, Massachusetts, a town in Cape Cod. Brewster State Park is a Public Recreation Area with over 1,900 acres of land. It is popular for camping, fishing, boating, wooded trails, and swimming.

We had a magnificent Adventure to Nickerson State Park in Brewster, Massachusetts. As you will know if you are a follower of my blog my memories of our Throwback Adventures is generally not as detailed as current posts. However, I remember absolutely loving this beautiful park. We found the perfect trail around one of the gorgeous ponds, with spots along the path to sit and relax. The boys enjoyed some swims, naps along the way, and of course an energetic hike.

I was inspired by the boys’ desire for numerous swims, so I decided to wade far in the water (in my jeans!) so the boys could enjoy the nice refreshing water. Glad my Mom was able to capture a shot of this moment. I was reminded in viewing the photographs how Buster always used to love chewing on sticks along our journeys. We sure do miss his enthusiasm for our Adventures! One of the reasons I really do love sharing our Throwback Adventures. Nickerson State Park was definitely a lovely location, and I do hope to visit again in the future.
