Throwback Adventure

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

I have decided to make some changes to my Throwback section. This is partly because I have had the blog for about two and a half year and each week I have posted an Adventure from before I started the blog. This has become more challenging between finding old photographs, and identifying the location. Although I will still be adding some here and and there I thought I would also use the Throwback Adventure to share past Adventures I have posted. I have new followers, and of course not every follower has been able to view all blogs.

So for my Throwback Adventure today I am sharing my blog to Ripley Falls in the White Mountains. Ripley Falls is a short hike to a magnificent waterfall. It was one of our fantastic Adventures while working in the White Mountains in the summer of 2018 with Shadow and Wilma. The amazing Shadow was ten at the time, and still had two more amazing years of Adventures. This is definitely a waterfall Adventure I highly recommend! See below for the link from my original post to Ripley Falls.

If you follow my blog regularly please skip down to the last paragraph…

I have decided to return to the “normal” Weekly Video/Photo section of my blog.  As you likely know we lost Shadow about two months ago and I have been focusing this section on Shadow.  However, I have peace knowing I will continue to highlight favorite photographs including Shadow and Buster.  The plan will still be to still display a video or photo, usually highlighting an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments.

If you have followed my blog from the beginning you will know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year later we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were recently devastated to loose Shadow on April 3, 2020.  It is so painful to know Shadow and Buster are both gone, but they will be in our hearts forever!

I scheduled blog post last week but for some reason it did not post so will try again. I have decided for the Weekly Video/Photo section this month I will post some of my favorite Christmas photographs of the pups. I began the tradition long ago of creating a photo card for family and friends, and love this tradition. As you may have guessed I have endless photographs so will just share some of my favorites. So today I will start with one of Shadow and Wilma. I absolutely loved Shadow’s photographs in the top-hat and course reindeer-Wilma is adorable as well. This sweet pair is posing perfectly is one of my many wonderful holiday favorites. Hope this will bring a smile to your face!

Other Tidbits, Fun, and News

We have been taking it easy this week as we had a medical scare with Wilma last weekend. Luckily it did not end up being serious but it was a terrifying process. I think this was partly as my mind immediately flashed to when we lost Shadow as she had some similar symptoms. I will never be able to explain the love for my dogs but yet know some of you understand this special companionship! We are relieved and grateful that Wilma is doing well and look forward to returning to Adventures. It has mostly been a week full of rest so thought I would share a sweet, napping photos of sweet Wilma.

Throwback Adventure – Pennsylvania hike

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

Shadow and I had a wonderful hike in Pennsylvania back in July 2008. We were in town visiting a friend of mine from college, her boyfriend, and their dog Gilda. Gilda and Shadow had a blast together especially enjoying this hike. We walked through the woods, and the pups enjoyed some swimming. Gilda was not a swimmer but was inspired by Shadow and went in for a cool down. I have great memories of this hike and our visit to Pennsylvania. It is amazing how we both were so young in the posed photograph – Shadow just eight months old. So glad that Shadow was able to travel the entire east coast in his amazing twelve years. Endless memories! So although I cannot recall the name of this location I thought I would still share for today’s Throwback Adventure ….. (Throwback Adventures will not always be rated).

November 27, 2020 – Rockport, Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Rockport, Massachusetts. Rockport is an oceanside town in Northern Massachusetts. It is known for the beaches, art community, restaurants, shopping, and Motif #1, one of the most painted buildings in the country.

We had an ocean-filled Adventure to Rockport. Today our stops included: Motif #1, downtown Rockport, Bear Skin Neck, Old First Parish Burying Ground, the Breakwater, Halibut Point State Park, and Front Beach. Out Adventure started on a sunny morning, although it soon became dark and cloudy. Although we have been to almost all of these locations before we really enjoyed walking, exploring, and endless photos. I loved all the little aspects of the town, including the holiday decorations, the colorful buoys and lobster traps, and of course the gorgeous scenery. I especially loved hearing the crashing waves at Halibut Point State Park. Wilma especially enjoyed inhaling the smells of the lobster traps, watching the birds, and hoping along the Breakwater. Wilma seemed a little tired today, which is hopefully it is just me over analyzing. However she still appeared to enjoy the day, just appeared extra calm. So glad we could have an outing to Rockport today Rating: 4).

Throwback Adventure – Grassy Pond – Massachusetts

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

Shadow, Buster, Wilma, and I had numerous Adventures to Grassy Pond. Grassy Pond is a conservation area in Westford, Massachusetts. Grassy Pond is centered by a pond that occasionally dries up during certain seasons. This conservation area has picnic tables, a “Life Course” and has several short trails.

We have had simple Adventures to the Grassy Pond. I have been there with Shadow, Wilma, and Buster, but only could locate some limited photographs. Grassy Pond is a very small location so we would often walk there before a long trip, or if we only had a very short time to fit in a walk. Certain times of the year Grassy Pond can be quite beautiful. I always have loved the wooden bridge, and of course the views over the pond. You will find many locals walking at Grass Pond, including those exercising with their dogs, many off leash. We are lucky to have so many conservation trails in Massachusetts. So glad we were able to discover Grassy Pond (Throwback Adventures will not always be rated).

Today’s photograph is a heartwarming photograph of Shadow and Buster. This photo actually was taken during a devastating time as Buster had just been diagnosed with a terminal illness. This was snapped on my cell phone at an appointment he had with a medical specialist, but of course I brought them both everywhere together. Shadow and Buster were best friends, and it almost appeared as Shadow was providing him moral support. This photo makes me sad yet also warms my heart as they had a special, and unconditional bond. Many wonderful years together ❤️ I sure do miss my boys!

November 21, 2020 – Tidal Flats Recreation Area – Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Tidal Flats Recreation Area in Bourne, Massachusetts, part of Cape Cod. Tidal Flats Recreation Area is the western most section of the Cape Cod Canal bikeway. The Area is popular for walking, fishing, biking, and picnicking. It also contains the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge.

We had a wonderful Adventure to the Tidal Flats Recreation Area. We have been to other sections of the Cape Cod Canal, so had some idea as what to expect. Upon arrival we immediately spotted the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge. I have seen this Bridge from afar, but quite a unique and spectacular Bridge to see from below. We began down the paved walkway. The sun was shining and it was an unusually warm day for November in New England. We walked and walked. There were ducks floating in the current, some gigantic boats passing through, and two bridges to admire. The colors along the route were minimal, but the water was beautiful blue, and the atmosphere peaceful. This is really a simple location but perfect for a nice walk, and of course even better for those out there who are Bridge fanatics. So glad we could enjoy a walk at the Tidal Flats Recreation Area (Rating: 3.5).

Throwback Adventure

So today’s Throwback Adventure is more a Throwback memory, although it really was an Adventure. Back when I lived in Tampa Buster used to climb into the big tree in my backyard. I am not sure if he was smelling the opossums, or just preferred a different view. It is a very funny memory, and what is wilder about it as he used to actually get stuck in the tree. He began this activity as a puppy but grew to be 95 pounds and did not let that stop him. I am sure Wilma would have joined him if she was there. Here he is…my tree climber:

Today’s photograph is a happy photograph of Wilma who really looks like she is smiling! I actually took this photograph at our recent Adventure to Salem, however, somehow it did not make it in the collage so I could not resist sharing in the photo of the week. I also added it to that blog. I love this cheerful photo. Here is my girl Wilma.
