October 9, 2021 – Old Bennington – Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Old Bennington Vermont. Old Bennington is a village in the town of Bennington. It is known for: The Bennington Museum, The Old First Church, The Bennington Cemetery (including the gravestone of Robert Frost), the Bennington Battle Monument, and the historic homes. The Village is part of the National Register of Historic Places.

We had a wonderful Adventure to Old Bennington. It was a dark but beautiful Fall day, always adding some challenges to vibrant photographs. However that of course did not change our experience and I still snapped away. We began our visit at the Bennington Museum, finding sculptures, and a children’s garden walk of trails. Although it was past season for luscious flowers it was still fun to wander the trails. Wilma and Gus seemed overly interested in the smells causing me to ponder what creatures had also enjoyed the trails. I did not realize there were trails at the Museum so definitely a nice surprise.

From there we headed to the cemetery and to the Old First Church, both beautiful and scenic. (We actually stopped there on the way back as well, making sure to find the gravesite of Robert Frost). We then followed Monument Avenue up toward the Battle Monument. I have actually been to the Battle Monument before and remembered the lovely historic homes. However on this day we walked all the way up the Street until we arrived at the Monument. The Bennington Battle Monument is grand and spectacular, although my dark photographs far from gave the Monument justice. We took our time walking around the monument and enjoying this special location. We then headed back on our route re-visiting all locations a second time. Throughout the day Wilma made sure to fit in some joyous rolls, and of course Gus had some surprised barks at all things new. So glad we could enjoy this walking tour of Old Bennington (Rating: 4).

August 28, 2021 – Holmes Creek Covered Bridge/Lakeshore Covered Bridge

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Holmes Creek Covered Bridge, also referred to as the Lakeshore Covered Bridge. The Holmes Creek Covered Bridge is located on Lake Road just next to the Town Beach. The Bridge was built in 1974 and crosses Holmes Creek.

We had a gorgeous Adventure to the Holmes Creek Covered Bridge. I have never found a covered bridge in such a unique location, directly next to Lake Champlain. Charlotte Beach was nearby and the views of the mountains and scenery was just gorgeous. There were no dogs allowed on the beach but we were lucky that they let us park just to trot over the bridge for some photographs. Holmes Creek Covered Bridge was very simple, and not in great shape but the views surrounding made it just right. Surprisingly there were no openings in the bridge to view out to the Lake but I took many photographs of the water, even more then the bridge. Wilma and Gus enjoyed posing, and exploring on the short walk over to the Bridge. Quite an amazing area, and probably the most scenic spot of our Adventure today. So glad we could visit the Holmes Creek Covered Bridge today (Rating: Bridge: 2, Location: 5).

August 28, 2021 – Winooski River Walk – Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Winooski River Walk in Winooski, Vermont. The Winooski River Walk parallels the Winooski River and provides views of the Champlain and Woolen Mills.

We had a simple Adventure to the Winooski River Walk. We arrived on Winooski Falls Way and quickly found the boardwalk. The exact location of the official “River Walk” was not designated but I believe we found all of it if on our walk. As what seems to be a common theme of our Adventures today this area appeared frequented by the homeless population. However we carried on and enjoyed the “Walk”. We found lovely views of the Mill, gorge, and dam, and loved the sound of the rushing water. There were few other visitors which I always appreciate. And again a dark adventure for photographs but I did my best to capture the location. Glad we could check out the Winooski River Walk on our Adventures today (Rating 3.5).

August 28, 2021 – Burlington, Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Burlington, Vermont. Burlington is located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain and is one of the largest populated cities in Vermont. Burlington is a popular tourist destination known for the recreational activities, shops, arts and restaurants. It is also home to three colleges.

We had a perfect mountain-view Adventure to Burlington, Vermont. I had been to Burlington many years ago with Shadow and Buster, so almost felt like it was our first visit. I do not know if Burlington has grown in popularity or if we just picked a very busy day to visit. We eventually found parking and spent about two hours wandering around. Although overcast I was thrilled to have a cooler day. We walked, trotted, and posed all around town. My favorite aspect of Burlington was the gorgeous mountains from afar framing Lake Champlain. They were all different shades and just spectacular. Part of exploring included: Church Street Marketplace, Perkins Pier Marina, the Bike Trail, and waterfront paths, allowing continual views of the mountains and bobbing boats along the Lake. A bit challenging to capture the area in photography on a dark day but did my best to summarize this Adventure. Definitely worth a very long road trip as we really enjoyed our Adventure to Burlington (Rating: 4).

August 28, 2021 – Downtown Montpelier, Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus and I Adventured to Montpelier, Vermont. Montpelier is the capital of Vermont and the location of the state’s government. It is the smallest capital in the United States.

We had a bridge-filled Adventure to Montpelier. Montpelier was one of our stops on our way to our final destinations, and we spent about 45 minutes exploring the downtown area. The town was quite busy due to a farmer’s market, and we found many enjoying the grounds of the beautiful capital. We walked along the downtown area and found several nearby bridges. There appeared to be a large homeless population, who seemed to frequent these bridges, but I guess that is to be expected in a more metropolitan area of a predominantly rural state. I have been to Montpelier several times and it was nice on this occasion to explore the town more in depth. Of course as you may expect my favorite part to Downtown Montpelier is the gorgeous state building, lined with flowers and green space. Wilma loved rolling in the grass and Wilma and Gus continually wanted to play, definitely quite an Adventure on the leash. A little difficult to capture the location between the darkness and some complications with camera setting but I did my best. So glad we found a great location to stretch our legs and explore (This blog will not be rated).

August 6, 2021 – Orne Covered Bridge – Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, My Mom, and I Adventured to the Orne Covered Bridge in Irasburg, Vermont. The Orne Covered bridge was built in the 1800s, destroyed by arson in 1997, and rebuilt in 2000. It is located on Back Coventry Road and traverses the Black River.

We had a Queen Anne Lace-filled adventure to the Orne Covered Bridge. We had four amazing adventures yesterday, two of which were new, including the Orne Covered Bridge. I love visiting covered bridges and was thrilled to fit in a new one on our adventure. The Orne Covered Bridge is located in a more rural setting. Nearby we spotted horses and farmers hard at work. The brook was beautiful, framed by wildflowers on the roadside. I trotted through the bridge and back, before taking the pups out to explore, although a quiet location, not much of an area to cross the bridge in. We wandered around near the bridge, finding rocks for posing, and enjoying the scene. Besides some nosey farm equipment it was really a peaceful setting. It seemed to be the warmest part of the day so it was nice to find this perfect short adventure on our day full of fun. So glad to visit the Orne Covered Bridge (Rating: 4).

May 22, 2021 – Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park – Vermont

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park in Woodstock, Vermont.  This National Park was named for George Perkins Marsh, and Frederick Billings.  George Perkins Marsh was one of the nation’s first global thinkers, while Frederick Billings, was an early conservationist.  The park includes:  trails, horseback carriage rides, a victorian mansion, and a museum.  It is also a popular location for cross-country skiing in the winter.

We had a flower-filled Adventure to Marsh-Billings Rockefeller National Park. We have been to the Park numerous times, but have not blogged about it except for locating old photographs for our Throwback Adventure, so today was the day to share. I was excited to visit this Park, especially to explore the gardens in the spring season. I was looking forward to endless hiking however Wilma appeared quite warm from the heat so spent alot of time lounging in the perfect grass, and only enjoyed the trail system for a short time. The gardens were beautiful, the buildings lovely, and the trails quite energizing. I have always enjoyed Marsh-Billings Rockefeller National Park and look forward to our next Adventure to this beautiful location (Rating: 4).

May 22, 2021 – Taftsville Covered Bridge – Vermont

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Taftsville Covered Bridge in Woodstock, Vermont. The Taftsville Covered Bridge spans the Ottauqueche River. It was built in 1836 and is one of the oldest bridges in Vermont.

We had a short Adventure to the Taftsville Covered Bridge. Although I have been to this bridge before I do not know if I have ever photographed it before. Due to the busy traffic running through the bridge we took time to view different angles from each side. There was a dam on one side of the bridge adding some flowing scenery to the bridge. Wilma was still warm for our walk at Quechee State Park, hence the adorable tongue out pose. So glad we could visit the Taftsville Covered Bridge (Rating: 4).

May 22, 2021 – Quechee State Park – Vermont

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Quechee State Park in Hartford, Vermont. The Quechee Gorge is located in the Quechee State Park in Quechee, Vermont.  It is the deepest gorge in Vermont, plunging 165 feet.  The Ottauquechee River flows through the bottom of the Gorge.  The Gorge can be viewed from the bridge above, located directly on Route 4.  This scenic view really cannot be missed as it is plastered with tourists peering over the bridge for a view, and snapping photographs.  There are also trails along the Gorge, which allow for varied views of the River, and Gorge.

We had a green-filled Adventure to the Quechee State Park in Hartford, Vermont. We have been to the Park numerous times, but have not blogged about it except for locating old photographs for our Throwback Adventure, so today was the day to share. I was surprised to find Quechee State Park quite quiet, a pleasant surprise. We parked at the visitor center and headed down the trail winding through the woods to the main trail along the River. We first headed down to the bottom of the Gorge. The trail was lovely, many bright green ferns lining the path. Upon arrival to the bottom of the Gorge we found the water higher then ever, but still managed to jump along the uneven rocks to get close to the edge and peer down the gorge. Just scenic! From there we headed to a trail through the woods, lined with ferns, it was gorgeous.

After exploring this section of the Park we headed back up along the River toward the opposite end. There were several spots to peer into the gorge, but often the view was blocked by trees. However the rocks and the gorge are quite spectacular. We continued our uphill climb and began heading the opposite end. We passed a lovely dam and continued on to the Dewey’s Mill Pond and the Ottauquechee River, a field-like trail between the two. Such a fun variety of scenery in one location. Last we had to check out the view from the bridge, probably the most spectacular scene of the gorge, again relieved to find few visitors.

We spent about two hours exploring the trails and exploring. My favorite parts were of course the gorge, the bright green ferns, and hearing the sounds of the birds chirping around us. Wilma loved hiking, posing on stumps, and enjoyed sips from the water. The only thing I do not like about this trail is the metal fencing, but apparently needed for safety from falls. A beautiful way to start our day (Rating: 4).

March 27, 2021 – Downtown Brattleboro – Vermont

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Brattleboro, Vermont. Brattleboro, Vermont is a small town in Southern Vermont known for its arts, culture and shops. It is bordered by the Connecticut River, West River and Mount Wantastiquet, making it popular for water activities.

We had a fun Adventure to Downtown Brattleboro. I am so happy that we are now able to leave the state so today Vermont was the destination. I have been there before with Shadow and Buster but today was Wilma’s first trip to Downtown. We spent about two hours walking around, exploring every street we could find. I loved the bright green bridge crossing the West River, which of course we enjoyed trotting across. Throughout the town we located many churches, artwork, and even some small cascades. The mountains framing the town were majestic, and I am sure they are especially gorgeous in the Fall. We passed many appealing stores, and we wandered by many restaurants. I did not feel the town was necessarily picturesque, but all the aspects of it made it just right. As always Wilma enjoyed exploring, and had some perfect rolls in front of the bridge. Before returning the car we even sat in the sun in the grass, just relaxing, I guess my girl is growing up! It was the perfect way to end our main Adventure of today (this blog will not be rated).
