May 26, 2022 – Nut Island – Massachusetts

Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Nut Island in Quincy, Massachusetts. Nut Island is a former island, now connected by a causeway. It has a less then one mile loop with various side trails throughout. Nut Island is popular for walking and fishing, and offers scenic views of Boston.

We had a coastal Adventure to Nut Island. I was excited to visit Nut Island, a place I have been curious about for some time. We arrived to find the street closed off for construction, so after some circling around I decided to park in the nearby neighborhood. I was pleased to find this plan worked, and after a short walk we arrived at Nut Island. We were immediately greeted by a refreshing ocean breeze, gorgeous Rugosa’s, and lovely water views. I was surprised to find few other visitors, with the majority of those we saw were walking their dogs on leash. We explored every spot and trail we could find, enjoying a change of pace from the “normal” week. Wilma and Gus loved the new smells, and Wilma did not miss a moment for a roll. There was a moment or two of a swamp-like smell, but overall it was a refreshing and peaceful Adventure. So glad we could visit Nut Island today (Rating: 3.5)

The weekly Video/Photo section highlights an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments. If you have followed my blog from the beginning you know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year after his passing we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were devastated to loose Shadow on April 3, 2020.These two precious boys boys will be furever in our hearts! We were recently thrilled to add another amazing rescue, Gus, to our home on June 28, 2021! This Weekly Video/Photo section will allow me to share photos from all four of my rescues, whether it be a precious memory, or a current moment.

Today’s photograph is one of Shadow back from July 2017 on our hike to Lonesome Lake in the White Mountains. It was one of my favorite hikes with my boy, who was amazing off-leash, and at nine did this hike with me. He was such a special boy. Glad to have so many photographs to cherish all of our adventures. Here he is enjoying this spectacular location!

May 23, 2022 – Assabet River Rail Trail (Maynard) – Massachusetts

Today Wilma, Gus, My Mom, and I Adventured to the Assabet River Trail in Maynard, Massachusetts. The Assabet River Rail Trail is approximately thirteen miles (upon completion) and runs from Acton to Marlborough.

We had a green filled adventure to the Assabet River Trail in Maynard, Massachusetts. I had explored the Acton portion of the Trail previously and was looking forward to visiting another section. I looked at the Assabet River Trail map online and found the “Ice Pond” parking as indicated. We walked along the trail, which was overall very quiet, running along the Assabet River. The trail foliage was simple, but lovely, the sun streaming through the canopy of trees. Along our walk we found a beaver dam, some swans in the River, and enjoyed studying the various flowers and greenery on the Trail. There were many bikers, several solo walkers and numerous dog walkers. We saw one dog off leash, but were thankful that the owner was respectful and leashed his dog when he saw us walking toward him. Our walk was leisurely and just right on this gorgeous spring day. We definitely chose a scenic section of the Assabet Rail Trail today (Rating: 4).

Today’s photograph is one of Shadow and Wilma at Sabbaday Falls in the White Mountains. Although somewhat touristy, this waterfall is just gorgeous! I have made many trips to this falls, and love it every time. Here they are, posing just right!

May 16, 2022 – Long Hill – Massachusetts

Today Wilma, Gus, my Mom and I Adventured to Long Hill and Sedgwick Gardens in Beverly, Massachusetts.  This property is a 114 acres in size, the former estate of Ellery and Mabel Sedgwick.  It is currently owned and managed by the Trustees of Reservation.  The property includes:  gardens, the brick estate, trails, an orchard, a child’s garden, the “Food Project”, and a library specializing in horticulture.  There is currently a $10 charge for adults to enter Long Hill, although those with a Trustees pass can enter for free.

We had a colorful, fragrant, and relaxing Adventure to Long Hill. I have not been to, nor blogged about this park in three years, so was very excited to return. Off we headed and the memories of our first visit came flashing back. There were endless lovely flowers, and the gardens had been expanded since our initial visit. We walked, took photographs, and enjoyed the atmosphere. There were few other visitors, which of course I appreciated. Life has been challenging over the last several months, so our adventures in the outdoors always adds that peace to the soul. I was BEYOND disappointed to learn that my memory card was not in my camera, so therefore there are no gorgeous photographs to show. I still decided to blog about Long Hill as it is a unique, dog-friendly location. So glad we could visit Long Hill today (Rating: 4).

Today’s video is one from Wilma at Wilton Falls back from May 2020. We had a wonderful Adventure to Welton Falls, including a balancing act across a log to make it over the rushing river. The Falls was in a gorgeous ravine, and although hard to capture on film, uniquely spectacular. May 9, 2022 – Lincoln Woods State Park – Rhode Island

Today Wilma, Gus, My Mom, and I Adventured to Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Lincoln Woods State Park is approximately 627 acres in size, highlighted by Olney Pond. It is popular for walking, equestrian riding, mountain biking, walking, boating, swimming, and fishing. There is no cost to enter the park.

We had a refreshing Adventure to Lincoln Woods State Park. I had been to Lincoln Woods State Park previous to beginning the blog, so this was the first time in many years, and the first time I blogged about the park. We found a scenic place to park and off we went. We walked, and took photographs, especially enjoying the pond, and the new colors of spring. There were boulders throughout, benches, and sandy shores. The sun was shining, but on occasion the wind added a chill to the air. Gus enjoyed lots of chewing, while Wilma enjoyed lots of rolling (haha!) So glad we could explore Lincoln Woods State Park today (Rating: 4).

May 1, 2022 – First Kayak trip of the year – Concord River (Concord) – Massachusetts

Today Gus and I Adventured to the Concord River for the first kayaking trip of the year, while Wilma vacationed at the Grandma and Grandpa spa! The Concord River is an approximately 16 mile River, a branch of the Merrimack River. It played part in the American Revolution, being part of one of the battles. It also was included in the writings of well known author Henry David Thoreau.

We had a relaxing Adventure to the Concord River. We launched on Lowell Road, and off we went. I was so excited that we were finally on our first kayaking Adventure of the season. Gus has grown much since last season, and I was quite pleased that we were just about right back into routine. It did take him some coaxing to get into the boat, but once he realized he could sit in my lap he was at peace. I rowed and relaxed, and Gus seemed to enjoy the cuddles and observing the scenes along the way. Gus received many compliments and was quite the star on the River, absolutely adorable! After heading upstream I rowed back to check out the North Bridge, one of my favorite parts of our ride. Although the scenery was still quite brown from winter, it was just a lovely ride being out on the water. So glad we were able to head out on our first kayaking trip of the year (this blog will not be rated).

Today’s photograph is one of my favorite photos of puppy Wilma with big brother Shadow. They are poser just perfectly, and as adorable as ever! I cannot believe Wilma was so small. I am lucky to have had three different precious pairs. Here they are:
