Weekly Video/Photo

I have decided to return to the “normal” Weekly Video/Photo section of my blog.  As you likely know we lost Shadow about two months ago and I have been focusing this section on Shadow.  However, I have peace knowing I will continue to highlight favorite photographs including Shadow and Buster.  The plan will still be to still display a video or photo, usually highlighting an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments.

If you have followed my blog from the beginning you will know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year later we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were recently devastated to loose Shadow on April 3, 2020.  It is so painful to know Shadow and Buster are both gone, but they will be in our hearts forever!

Today is a video from the Ammonoosuc Lake Trail in Carroll, New Hampshire. I discovered this beautiful, short trail back in the Summer of 2018 when Shadow, Wilma, and I spent our weekend in the White Mountains. I have probably been there three times since, and it has become one of my favorites. Generally when we visit we see few, if any other visitors. Every time we go my heart is warmed, and saddened as I remember this video of Shadow just loving the Adventure. He was thrilled once he realized our hike included a swim! I am so glad I have this video to freeze one of our endless Adventures. He sure did love hiking, and of course the water. Wonderful, forever memories!

October 11, 2020 – White Mountains – New Hampshire

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  The White Mountains are a mountain range that cover a large part of New Hampshire, and also a portion of western Maine. The White Mountains include 48 peaks at over 4,000 feet. The White Mountains are popular for skiing, hiking, and ATVing.

We had a beautiful Adventure to the White Mountains. I was excited to head to the White Mountains, eager for a Fall foliage day. I was surprised that the foliage was not as brilliant as I expected but yet we still had a fantastic day. We visited some of our favorite locations, including: the Ammonoosuc Lake Trail, the Red Bench Trail, Wiley Pond, the Pond Loop, the Sam Willey Trail, and the Saco Lake Trail. We also Adventured to the Swift River Covered Bridge, which we visited once in the winter, however were not able to explore thoroughly due to the snow. We were excited to return and find a path down to the shore, even spotting the Saco River Covered Bridge from afar.

Throughout the day we took our time enjoying the perfect Fall air, the warm sun, the Fall foliage and lots of little hikes. It was a beautiful day! Wilma loved hiking, and meeting other visitors. I had no doubt after today’s Adventure that Wilma would very likely swim in order to chase a duck – haha – as she waded deeply, being deterred only by me holding her leash. It was so nice to relax and appreciate the moments (Blog will not be rated as there was a variety of locations explored today).

October 10, 2020 – Meredith, New Hampshire

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Meredith, New Hampshire. Meredith is located in the Lakes Region, and is a popular tourist location.

We had a refreshing Adventure to Meredith, New Hampshire. We have been here before, but I have not blogged about the town specifically so thought today would be the day. I was eager to explore and be outdoors on a beautiful Fall day. We arrived early so had no challenges finding parking. We began our walk along Lake Winnipesaukee. We explored the boardwalk path, the Meredith Town docks, Clough Park, and sculptures from The Sculpture Walk. The views across the Lake were lovely, framed by the mountains in the distance. It was fun to trot down the various docks and enjoy the waterfront.

After thoroughly exploring the waterfront we headed over to the shopping areas. We continued to locate sculptures along the sculpture walk, and appreciated the Fall trimmings, and decorative flower boxes adoring the store fronts. We made sure to “Do the Loop” and also explored several other streets in the town. It was an absolutely beautiful day and although we had a good paced walk we made sure to stop and enjoy the little smells, and sights. Although Meredith can be a very busy place I really do love this adorable town. Another beautiful day for a Fall Adventure (Rating: 4).

October 10, 2020 – Riverfront Park – New Hampshire

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Riverfront Park in Tilton, New Hampshire. Riverfront Park is a 2 acre Park situated on the Winnipesauke River. The Park has small docks, picnic areas, and a playground. The Park was redeveloped in the area where the old Pillsbury Mill was located.

We had an unexpected Adventure to Riverfront Park. I actually had planned to visit a landmark in the area and we never found it. Therefore I was especially pleased to find the Riverfront Park so we could stretch our legs before heading to our second Adventure. Although on a busy road we arrived to find the Park vacant. We sauntered around finding several short paths, and docks along the shore. The colors were not as peak as I expected but there were some red and yellow folliage that I greatly appreciated. We took our time walking and exploring, finding some informational kiosks, and benches along the way. The Park was quite small, but who can complain about a Riverfront Park. Glad we were able to visit Riverfront Park on our detour today (Rating: 3).

Throwback Adventure- Purgatory Chasm State Reservation – Massachusetts

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

In August of 2014 Shadow, Buster, and I Adventured to Purgatory Chasm State Reservation in Sutton, Massachusetts. Purgatory State Park is a state owned park know for its unique geological characteristics. It features a deep chasm of granite rocks with a short trail and approximately two additional miles of trails. Purgatory Chasm is popular for rock climbing, hiking, picnicking and educational programs.

We had a rock filled Adventure to Purgatory Chasm State Reservation. I remember discovering this Park on a very warm summer day. We wandered through the chasm and appreciated the views. The terrain was a bit challenging for two large framed dogs but we did our best to explore this park. I actually stopped to visit one other time with Shadow and Wilma but was a bit spooked by the hunting signs and vacant feel. Although generally I cheer with a quiet location I am always deterred when hunting is permitted. Therefore we departed and headed on a detour Adventure. We look forward to returning and capturing a more thorough depiction of the Purgatory Chasm State Park. Definitely glad to have been able to explore with my sweet boys…endless memories to cherish (Throwback Adventures will not always be rated).

Today I am sharing a photograph that I took of Wilma last week. I love this photograph of Wilma appearing to be looking into the commencement of the Fall season. I was able to capture the silhouette on my cell phone on one of our local evening walks. Cheers to Fall!

October 3, 2020 – Mid-Coast Maine

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Mid-Coast Maine for four Adventures. Although I do not know if Mid-Coast Maine is technically defined, that is how I will categorize our Adventures today. We visited: Wolfe Neck State Park, Robinson Cove, Doubling Point Lighthouse, and Fort Williams Park, the home to Portland Head Lighthouse. We loved exploring the shoreline, hiking, the spectacular geography of the rocks, and the perfect Fall weather. Since I have blogged about the two Parks somewhat recently, I thought I would share some of my many favorite photographs in one collage. I did a separate blog of Doubling Point Lighthouse, however will still include some of my favorites here. Wolfe Neck State Park and Fort Williams are definitely on my top Maine State Parks…so far! Hope you will enjoy these photographs of a wonderful day.

October 3, 2020 – Doubling Point Lighthouse – Maine

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Doubling Point Lighthouse in Arrowsic, Maine. Doubling Point Lighthouse is located on the Kennebec River at the end of a small pier. The Lighthouse was built in 1898. It is located on private property but it is open for visitors.

We had a fun Adventure to the Doubling Point Lighthouse. We had attempted to visit this Lighthouse on one occasion but it was closed. Therefore I was especially excited to visit today. Upon arrival we found a group of visitors at the Lighthouse, so began our Adventure exploring on the side. We located a little path through the tall colored grass and down to the River’s edge. I loved this secretive little spot with varying colors of grass, and a large coastal tree branch. It was simple yet uniquely beautiful. Once the visitors on the boardwalk departed we headed over to see the Lighthouse.

It took me a minute to figure out how to open the gate at the beginning of the boardwalk and before I could open it Wilma jumped through the triangular hole causing a nice laugh as I figured how to untangle her and go through myself. Never a dull moment with this enthusiastic girl. We then headed down the pier, my favorite aspect of this Lighthouse. We walked down and around the Lighthouse, back and forth, enjoying the scenery around us and this peaceful location. Thankfully we had some time to appreciate this Lighthouse before the next visitors arrived. Before departing we checked out the Lighthouse from the opposite side. Being that the Lighthouse was on private property it was not a place we felt appropriate to sit and relax. However, we were quite thankful that these kind property owners allowed visitors. So glad we could Adventure to Doubling Point Lighthouse today (Rating: 4).

Throwback Adventure – Hampton Beach – New Hampshire

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

In July 2011 Shadow, Buster, My Mom, and I Adventured to Hampton Beach in Hampton, New Hampshire. Hampton Beach is a highly frequented Beach in Hampton, New Hampshire. It is popular for swimming, fishing, picnicking and RV camping.

We had an energetic Adventure to Hampton Beach. This Adventure occurred when I was visiting Massachusetts from Tampa, before I moved back to New England. I do not remember this Adventure thoroughly but recall the boys being overexuberant to be at the beach. They dragged me down the dune and into the water. I remember their cheerful energy making me smile and enjoying our stroll down the beach. I think this is the only time I have been to Hampton Beach but I have good memories of this Adventure. I will just have to return in the future so I can capture a more thorough visual of this location. However, still glad to share these photos of Hampton Beach as I remember another fun Adventure with my boys (Throwback Adventures will not always be rated).

Today I am sharing a video from Shadow, Wilma, and My trip to Lost Pond in August 2019. This is one of my many favorite videos, especially as I remember Shadow. It was a gorgeous place and Shadow was loving a calm, relaxing moment in the water. I am so glad I have endless videos to remember our special times. Lost Pond is a short hike and is absolutely beautiful.
