August 28, 2021 – Winooski River Walk – Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to the Winooski River Walk in Winooski, Vermont. The Winooski River Walk parallels the Winooski River and provides views of the Champlain and Woolen Mills.

We had a simple Adventure to the Winooski River Walk. We arrived on Winooski Falls Way and quickly found the boardwalk. The exact location of the official “River Walk” was not designated but I believe we found all of it if on our walk. As what seems to be a common theme of our Adventures today this area appeared frequented by the homeless population. However we carried on and enjoyed the “Walk”. We found lovely views of the Mill, gorge, and dam, and loved the sound of the rushing water. There were few other visitors which I always appreciate. And again a dark adventure for photographs but I did my best to capture the location. Glad we could check out the Winooski River Walk on our Adventures today (Rating 3.5).

August 28, 2021 – Burlington, Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to Burlington, Vermont. Burlington is located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain and is one of the largest populated cities in Vermont. Burlington is a popular tourist destination known for the recreational activities, shops, arts and restaurants. It is also home to three colleges.

We had a perfect mountain-view Adventure to Burlington, Vermont. I had been to Burlington many years ago with Shadow and Buster, so almost felt like it was our first visit. I do not know if Burlington has grown in popularity or if we just picked a very busy day to visit. We eventually found parking and spent about two hours wandering around. Although overcast I was thrilled to have a cooler day. We walked, trotted, and posed all around town. My favorite aspect of Burlington was the gorgeous mountains from afar framing Lake Champlain. They were all different shades and just spectacular. Part of exploring included: Church Street Marketplace, Perkins Pier Marina, the Bike Trail, and waterfront paths, allowing continual views of the mountains and bobbing boats along the Lake. A bit challenging to capture the area in photography on a dark day but did my best to summarize this Adventure. Definitely worth a very long road trip as we really enjoyed our Adventure to Burlington (Rating: 4).

August 28, 2021 – Downtown Montpelier, Vermont

Yesterday Wilma, Gus and I Adventured to Montpelier, Vermont. Montpelier is the capital of Vermont and the location of the state’s government. It is the smallest capital in the United States.

We had a bridge-filled Adventure to Montpelier. Montpelier was one of our stops on our way to our final destinations, and we spent about 45 minutes exploring the downtown area. The town was quite busy due to a farmer’s market, and we found many enjoying the grounds of the beautiful capital. We walked along the downtown area and found several nearby bridges. There appeared to be a large homeless population, who seemed to frequent these bridges, but I guess that is to be expected in a more metropolitan area of a predominantly rural state. I have been to Montpelier several times and it was nice on this occasion to explore the town more in depth. Of course as you may expect my favorite part to Downtown Montpelier is the gorgeous state building, lined with flowers and green space. Wilma loved rolling in the grass and Wilma and Gus continually wanted to play, definitely quite an Adventure on the leash. A little difficult to capture the location between the darkness and some complications with camera setting but I did my best. So glad we found a great location to stretch our legs and explore (This blog will not be rated).

Throwback Adventure

I have decided to make some changes to my Throwback section. This is partly because I have had the blog for about three years and each week I have posted an Adventure from before I started the blog. This has become more challenging between finding old photographs, and identifying the location. Although I will still be adding some here and and there I thought I would also use the Throwback Adventure to share past Adventures I have posted. I have new followers, and of course not every follower has been able to view all blogs. This Throwback blog will also allow me an opportunity to share special memories of my boys, Shadow and Buster who have passed. They began my life of wonderful adventures with my rescues, and will be furever in our hearts!

In October 2018 Shadow, Wilma, My parent and I Adventured to Pine Hills Park in Rutland, Vermont. This was a simple park, but just lovely. My Dad found it and I was pleasantly surprised as I had not even had it on our list to explore. We had a wonderful family walk in the great outdoors. As you likely are aware I have endless favorite photos but I love the photo below of Shadow and My Dad. Glad to have it in our file to remember our special boy.     The Weekly Video/Photo section highlights an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments. If you have followed my blog from the beginning you know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year after his passing we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were devastated to loose Shadow on April 3, 2020.  These two precious boys boys will be furever in our hearts! We were recently thrilled to add another amazing rescue, Gus, to our home on June 28, 2021! This Weekly Video/Photo section will allow me to share photos from all four of my rescues, whether it be a precious memory, or a current moment.

    Today’s photograph is of Buster on one of our favorite local hikes back when we lived in Sterling, Massachusetts. I loved this hidden conservation land and rarely saw other visitors. The boys loved running off leash, and this snapshot always makes me smile – Buster running through the gorgeous scenery. We really had so much fun, and created precious memories! Run Buster Run…we sure do miss him!

    August 22, 2021 – Hurricane Day

    Today Wilma, Gus, and I had a quiet and dark day at home due to Hurricane Henri, although thankfully we were able to sneak out for a morning walk. We actually did not end up getting much of Henri, but I planned for a day at home with new bones, new toys, and Gus was lucky to have a new toy from a kind and giving family friend. I was quite proud that Gus did so well on this inside day, as we are an outside-as-much-as-possible family. Gus is not a high energy puppy but I would definitely consider him busy on a “normal” day however he seemed to know that this dark day was perfect for resting. Wilma enjoyed the day of relaxation, but also appreciated the new squeaky toys. She also loved some extra belly rubs. I enjoyed cuddling with them on the couch and relaxing, in between some catching up around the house.

    We ended the day with some home made pumpkin dog treat, which I believe they enjoyed as they gobbled them right up. Although I was super bummed to end summer vacation with a rainy, sleepy day, maybe a good introduction to a new routine that will not involve the majority of the time outside. This schedule will increase our “normal” local walks but we still will look forward to taking and sharing new Adventure….already planning for next weekend. Hope those of you who are local stayed safe through Henri.

    Today’s Throwback Adventure is from the Castle Hill Lighthouse in Rhode Island. This was a gorgeous and quiet lighthouse, that required a walk on simple but lovely trails. I really found this lighthouse to be gorgeous and have fond memories of this Adventure. I am so glad Shadow was able to visit endless lighthouses during his long and spectacular life. We sure do miss him!

    August 18, 2021 – DAR State Forest – Massachusetts

    Today Gus and I Adventured to the DAR State Forest in Goshen, Massachusetts. The Park contains the Upper and Lower Highland Lakes. DAR State Forest is popular for camping, swimming, fishing, and hiking. The state Forest has approximately 1700 acres, and is run by the Department of Conservation.

    We had a family-filled Adventure to the DAR State Forest. Today Wilma was lounging at Grandma and Grandpa’s spa so just Gus attended this Adventure. I was excited to visit the DAR State Forest as our family regularly camps here in summers and I could tell it was a wonderful location. On our visit we enjoyed kayaking, exploring the trails, wandering the Forest, and spending time with our amazing family. It was so relaxing and peaceful. The day gave me flashbacks of camping as a kid. Gus loved hiking and kayaking, but did vocalize some nervousness as we hung out at the campsite. He is much more confident with his big sister by his side. It was so nice to catch up with our family and to finally adventure to this spectacular Forest. So glad we could visit DAR State Forest today (Rating: 4).

    Today’s photograph is one I took this month of Wilma and Gus at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, Massachusetts. This particular location is one of the most picturesque sections of the Arboretum during August, a pathway lined with gorgeous yellow flowers. I was actually looking forward to taking a photograph of them in this scenic spot. I was a little disappointed that I indirectly joined them in this photograph (haha) but thought I would still share this photograph. As you may know the Arnold Arboretum is a place we frequent often and just love!     August 15, 2021 – Concord, Massachusetts

    Today Wilma, Gus, and I Adventured to downtown Concord, Massachusetts. Concord is known for the history in the American Revolutionary War as well as being the home of many well known authors. Concord is a tourist destination and besides being a popular location for the history it also has stores, restaurants, and shops.

    We had a history filled Adventure to Concord, Massachusetts. During our visit we explored a variety of locations including: Wrights Tavern, Monument Square, and the Old Burial Ground. We arrived bright and early, preventing a crowded scene. We walked down the main street stopping at various spots and enjoying the architecture of the buildings. Wilma was especially pleased that it was a cooler morning, not being too enthused with the recent heat. Both Wilma and Gus trotted along, and posed perfectly. My favorite landmark was the Old Burial Ground and enjoyed searching for various highlights along the way. So glad we could wander around Concord today (This blog will not be rated).
