June 11, 2021 – Bath, Maine

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Bath, Maine. Bath is a town located along the Kennebec River. It is a coastal town located in south-central Maine. Bath is a popular tourist destination known for the 19th century architecture, shops, and waterfront location.

We had a simple Adventure to Bath, Maine, a stop on the way to our main destination. I have often driven past Bath, but this was the first time we decided to stop and explore. We began by exploring the waterfront park, walked around the downtown shopping area, and found little Library Park. The shops were mostly closed but the restaurants were quite busy. We did not see any furry friends, but Wilma found some dog water bowls for some sips. The town had many lovely flowers decorating the landscape. There was not much to see, but it was the perfect stop to stretch our legs. Glad we finally checked out the town of Bath (this blog will not be rated).

Throwback Adventure

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

I have decided to make some changes to my Throwback section. This is partly because I have had the blog for about two and a half year and each week I have posted an Adventure from before I started the blog. This has become more challenging between finding old photographs, and identifying the location. Although I will still be adding some here and and there I thought I would also use the Throwback Adventure to share past Adventures I have posted. I have new followers, and of course not every follower has been able to view all blogs.

Today’s Throwback Adventure is one from Old Town Hill in Newbury, Massachusetts with Shadow and Wilma. I remember loving the unusual terrain of this location, the scenic boardwalks, and the double happy rolls in the long grass. We have only been to this Trustees property this one time and it was definitely a great hike. You can see below for several photo highlights, and click below to see our full blog:

I have decided to return to the “normal” Weekly Video/Photo section of my blog.  As you likely know we lost Shadow about two months ago and I have been focusing this section on Shadow.  However, I have peace knowing I will continue to highlight favorite photographs including Shadow and Buster.  The plan will still be to still display a video or photo, usually highlighting an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments.

If you have followed my blog from the beginning you will know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year later we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were recently devastated to loose Shadow on April 3, 2020.  It is so painful to know Shadow and Buster are both gone, but they will be in our hearts forever!

Today’s Weekly photo is a photograph of Shadow and I enjoying some beach time. Shadow was my gentle giant, and you can see his grand size in these photograph. He was so sweet, and my first rescue. I will miss this special boy forever.

June 5, 2021 – Neponset River Reservation – Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Neponset River Reservation in Boston, Massachusetts. The Neponset River Reservation is a State Reservation which extends from Milton to Boston. It runs along a natural inlet and has several playground on the route. It is popular for walking, biking, boating, and fishing.

We had a warm Adventure to the Neponset River Trail. This is a Trail I have read about for some time and today was the day for us to check it out. We arrived at 7 am to find a mostly empty paring lot at Neponset Park. We began our Adventure by wandering out on the dock into the River, and soon headed out on the Trail. The Trail was simple, but quite green, and we were often greeted by guests. We walked both directions to attempt to see as much as possible. There were lots of wild flowers along the Trail, murals throughout the tunnels, and some nice views of some boats out in the River. We even found ourselves passing a subway station, Wilma was quite curious, but did not seem phased. We walked for about 1.5 hours but it was definitely a hot one, so Wilma enjoyed some shady grass lounging and rolls along the way. Nothing too exciting, but always glad to enjoy a new Adventure with my Wilma Mae (Rating: 3).

Today’s Throwback Adventure is one I took with Wilma and Shadow to Garwin Falls in Wilton, New Hampshire. The walk to the Falls was far from appealing but the waterfall was beautiful! Shadow loved wading in the water, and Wilma and I had a quick trot across a log, luckily not crashing into the stream. A gorgeous singing waterfall!     Today’s Weekly photo is a photograph of Shadow, Buster, and their little friend Rex. It is a little dark, but still captures a perfect scene. We went to visit my friend and little Rex and these three were the best of friends. It was somewhat chaotic at times as they had too much fun running around the house. Love how dogs of all sizes can be the best of friends. I will always miss my special boys! Here they are:

    May 28, 2021 – Johnson’s Restaurant and Dairy Bar – Massachusetts

    Yesterday Wilma and I Adventured to Johnson’s Restaurant and Dairy Bar in Groton, Massachusetts. Johnson’s Restaurant and Dairy Bar sells home-made ice cream, lunch, and dinner. There is outdoor seating for dining, and take-out is also available.

    We had a tasty Adventure to Johnson’s Restaurant and Dairy Bar. Both Wilma and I were quite thrilled to have our first ice cream Adventure of the season. We were pleased to arrive with no line. Johnson’s did not have any dog specific ice cream but recommended soft serve vanilla for my sweet Wilma, and I ordered a sherbert drink. Wilma watched her ice cream very closely on the counter, hopeful girl. After our order was filled we headed to one of the many seating options up on the shady hill. Wilma inhaled her ice cream while I sipped my refreshing drink. It was amazing watching how fast her ice cream was gone! Johnson’s was simple, no fancy decor, but had great options for seating, some in the shade, some in the sun, and a more formal patio area. This made the perfect environment for us to enjoy our treat. So glad we could visit Johnson’s Restaurant and Dairy Bar (Rating: 3).

    I am disappointed to say I forgot to post a Throwback Adventure last week, but I guess we are on to the next. Today’s Throwback Adventure is from Mansfield Hollow State Park in Mansfield, Connecticut almost three years ago. I remember loving the green grass, watching the Shadow and Wilma rolls, Shadow enjoying some swimming, and hiking in various terrains. There was lots of green, and little visitors.     Today’s Weekly photo is a puppy photograph of Wilma and I when she was much smaller and lighter (haha). She was moving when this was snapped but I still love it! It seems like long ago that she was so small. Here is my and my sweet girl!

    May 22, 2021 – Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park – Vermont

    Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park in Woodstock, Vermont.  This National Park was named for George Perkins Marsh, and Frederick Billings.  George Perkins Marsh was one of the nation’s first global thinkers, while Frederick Billings, was an early conservationist.  The park includes:  trails, horseback carriage rides, a victorian mansion, and a museum.  It is also a popular location for cross-country skiing in the winter.

    We had a flower-filled Adventure to Marsh-Billings Rockefeller National Park. We have been to the Park numerous times, but have not blogged about it except for locating old photographs for our Throwback Adventure, so today was the day to share. I was excited to visit this Park, especially to explore the gardens in the spring season. I was looking forward to endless hiking however Wilma appeared quite warm from the heat so spent alot of time lounging in the perfect grass, and only enjoyed the trail system for a short time. The gardens were beautiful, the buildings lovely, and the trails quite energizing. I have always enjoyed Marsh-Billings Rockefeller National Park and look forward to our next Adventure to this beautiful location (Rating: 4).
