May 22, 2021 – Taftsville Covered Bridge – Vermont

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Taftsville Covered Bridge in Woodstock, Vermont. The Taftsville Covered Bridge spans the Ottauqueche River. It was built in 1836 and is one of the oldest bridges in Vermont.

We had a short Adventure to the Taftsville Covered Bridge. Although I have been to this bridge before I do not know if I have ever photographed it before. Due to the busy traffic running through the bridge we took time to view different angles from each side. There was a dam on one side of the bridge adding some flowing scenery to the bridge. Wilma was still warm for our walk at Quechee State Park, hence the adorable tongue out pose. So glad we could visit the Taftsville Covered Bridge (Rating: 4).

May 22, 2021 – Quechee State Park – Vermont

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Quechee State Park in Hartford, Vermont. The Quechee Gorge is located in the Quechee State Park in Quechee, Vermont.  It is the deepest gorge in Vermont, plunging 165 feet.  The Ottauquechee River flows through the bottom of the Gorge.  The Gorge can be viewed from the bridge above, located directly on Route 4.  This scenic view really cannot be missed as it is plastered with tourists peering over the bridge for a view, and snapping photographs.  There are also trails along the Gorge, which allow for varied views of the River, and Gorge.

We had a green-filled Adventure to the Quechee State Park in Hartford, Vermont. We have been to the Park numerous times, but have not blogged about it except for locating old photographs for our Throwback Adventure, so today was the day to share. I was surprised to find Quechee State Park quite quiet, a pleasant surprise. We parked at the visitor center and headed down the trail winding through the woods to the main trail along the River. We first headed down to the bottom of the Gorge. The trail was lovely, many bright green ferns lining the path. Upon arrival to the bottom of the Gorge we found the water higher then ever, but still managed to jump along the uneven rocks to get close to the edge and peer down the gorge. Just scenic! From there we headed to a trail through the woods, lined with ferns, it was gorgeous.

After exploring this section of the Park we headed back up along the River toward the opposite end. There were several spots to peer into the gorge, but often the view was blocked by trees. However the rocks and the gorge are quite spectacular. We continued our uphill climb and began heading the opposite end. We passed a lovely dam and continued on to the Dewey’s Mill Pond and the Ottauquechee River, a field-like trail between the two. Such a fun variety of scenery in one location. Last we had to check out the view from the bridge, probably the most spectacular scene of the gorge, again relieved to find few visitors.

We spent about two hours exploring the trails and exploring. My favorite parts were of course the gorge, the bright green ferns, and hearing the sounds of the birds chirping around us. Wilma loved hiking, posing on stumps, and enjoyed sips from the water. The only thing I do not like about this trail is the metal fencing, but apparently needed for safety from falls. A beautiful way to start our day (Rating: 4).

Weekly Video/Photo

I have decided to return to the “normal” Weekly Video/Photo section of my blog.  As you likely know we lost Shadow about two months ago and I have been focusing this section on Shadow.  However, I have peace knowing I will continue to highlight favorite photographs including Shadow and Buster.  The plan will still be to still display a video or photo, usually highlighting an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments.

If you have followed my blog from the beginning you will know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year later we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were recently devastated to loose Shadow on April 3, 2020.  It is so painful to know Shadow and Buster are both gone, but they will be in our hearts forever!

Today’s photograph is an autumn snapshot of Shadow and Buster. These boys were the best of friends, and my partners in crime. So glad that I was able to capture endless photographs to cherish the many adventures.

May 16, 2021 – Hancock-Clarke House – Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Hancock-Clarke House in Lexington, Massachusetts. The Hancock-Clarke House was built in 1737 and was the parsonage house for the town of Lexington. It was the childhood home of statesman John Hancock and is known as part of the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The house also has an herb garden, highlighting traditional herbs from the 1700s.

We had a historic adventure to the Hancock-Clarke House. We had a weekend full of local walks, friends and family, and catching up in the yard so decided to enjoy this simple NEW Adventure. We were walking along one of our favorite trails, the Minuteman Bikeway, and turned off this route to find the House. The Hancock-Clarke House itself was beautiful a vibrant yellow color. The front was lined with a scenic rock wall, and it a small herb garden. The house was open but of course we did not enter assuming there were no precious pups allowed. There was not much to see outside the house, but glad we were able to Adventure and learn about yet another New England home (this blog will not be rated).

Throwback Adventure

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

I have decided to make some changes to my Throwback section. This is partly because I have had the blog for about two and a half year and each week I have posted an Adventure from before I started the blog. This has become more challenging between finding old photographs, and identifying the location. Although I will still be adding some here and and there I thought I would also use the Throwback Adventure to share past Adventures I have posted. I have new followers, and of course not every follower has been able to view all blogs.

Today’s Throwback Adventure is from Thundering Falls in Vermont, an Adventure I took with Shadow and Wilma in January 2019. There was a short but scenic walk to the Falls, a boardwalk with lovely mountain views. Upon arrival we found the waterfall to be flowing through pieces of ice, so scenic. Definitely one of my favorite winter waterfall scenes. Below is a video highlight, and you can see more by checking out my original blog at: January 5, 2019 – Thundering Falls – Vermont.

Today’s photograph is a snapshot of Wilma that I actually took tonight as we were walking through one of our favorite local towns. It seemed like the perfect place for a pose, so why not! Here she is, my girl!

May 9, 2021- Charles River Esplanade – Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Charles River Esplanade in Boston, Massachusetts. This park is three miles one way and runs along the bank of the Charles River Basin. Small footbridges connect a strip of land and the pool of water sometimes known as the “lagoon”. The Esplanade is a popular area for walker, runner, and bikers. It is a a well known destination for concerts and fireworks at The Hatch, and includes(s): playgrounds, a boat launch, a cafe, and endless benches.

We had a perfect-weather Adventure to the Charles River Esplanade. I was thrilled to finally make it to the Esplanade, not the easiest place to travel to if you reside out of the neighborhood. We parked at the parking garage at the Boston Common, followed a map to find the Arthur Fiedler Footbridge (over Storrow drive) and we finally ARRIVED! The Charles River Esplanade had gorgeous views of the city, colorful signs of spring, row boats and sailboats floating in the River, and lovely footbridges. We even saw some ducklings, swan, and a lost bunny! The area was bustling with people, a busy location on this beautiful day. Wilma loved checking out the smells of the city, trotting along, posing, and of course ended the walk with some rolls. I think I was the only one taking photographs, but could not resist capturing this location in snapshots. We spent about three hours walking at this location, a nice change of scenery (Rating: 4).

Today’s Throwback Adventure is from Ashland State Park with Shadow and Wilma three years ago. We have only been to this park once but I have great memories of this park. We went for a very long walk, enjoyed lots of socialization with other pups, and of course Shadow loved some swims. We even found a turtle, and a waterfall. Great memories of our Adventure to Ashland State Park. See below for some highlights, and click on the link below to see the original blog:

Today’s photograph is an adorable photo of Shadow and Wilma, approximately a week after we adopted little Wilma. She was such a tiny little thing. She was so lucky to have a kind, big brother to show her the ropes. A perfect pose of a perfect pair!

May 1, 2021 – Profile Falls – New Hampshire

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Profile Falls in Bristol, New Hampshire. Profile Falls is a cascade falls of approximately 40 feet. It is sourced from the Smith River. The trail to the Falls is just .2 miles in length. The Falls is popular for swimming, and fishing, and is known as a popular summer location.

We had a roaring Adventure to Profile Falls. This was our main destination, and I decided to share this blog last as it was the highlight of todays Adventures. I had been wanting to visit Profile Falls, and today was finally the day! I pulled out my New England Waterfalls book to check on directions before heading out before the sun was up. I was thrilled to find ourselves the only ones on site, a perk of a 6am arrival. The parking lot to the Falls was closed but the adjacent parking was open. We began our journey crossing over a the rushing Smith River. The signs were clear and the trail was short. The trail down the Fall edge was steep, especially when with an exuberant dog in lead! Profile Falls was gorgeous, the rushing water leftover from days of rain, perfect timing for this Adventure. The water was high and the rocks slippery so there were not too many options to explore, but we enjoyed the grand view.

After taking in the beauty of Profile Falls I attempted to walk to the top, with no luck, a huge drop off below. However I am guessing if we continued to hike on the nearby trails we may have eventually have made it to this spot. We found some views from high above before heading back to the car. Unfortunately on the way out we were chased by a barking dog, no owner in sight. Luckily he did not seem aggressive, and we had no incident. Besides that little moment we had a wonderful Adventure to Profile Falls. A fun way to start our day (Rating: 3.5).
