November 15, 2020 – Plymouth, Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to to Plymouth, Massachusetts. Plymouth is a coastal town in southern Massachusetts. It is famous for the history of being the first Pilgrim settlement in 1620.

We had a perfect Adventure to Plymouth, Massachusetts. We have been there numerous times but I have not blogged about the town specifically since the Throwback blog so today was the day. It was yet another cloudy New England although the sun came streaming through here and there. Throughout our day we explored locations including: downtown Plymouth, the waterfront, the Forefathers Monument, Brewster Garden, the Mayflower, Plymouth Rock, and the Grist Mill, almost all of which we have explored previously.

Wilma loved walking and of course sniffing the new smells. She enjoyed rolls in the grass, always reminding me of sweet Shadow. I loved getting exercise with some new scenery, the coastal views, finding the artistic shells throughout the town, and finding some remnants of fall. Plymouth is a unique, bustling town filled with lots of history. If you love history, shopping, the coast or a walking town Plymouth is definitely for you! So glad we could again visit Plymouth today (Rating: 4).

November 14, 2020 – Boston Common – Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Boston Common in Boston, Massachusetts. Boston Common is located in downtown Boston. It was established back in 1654 making it the oldest urban park in the country. Boston Common is rich in history, and is a popular location for gathering with friends, walking, and ice skating in the winter months.

We had a squirrel-filled Adventure to the Boston Common (haha). Surprisingly I was able to locate meter parking nearby and off we went. Today was a dark New England day with remnants of color still scattered about and leaves blowing poetically in the breeze. We walked and explored venturing to all corners of the Common. There were memorials, endless belly heavy squirrels, lots of paths, and of course the empty frog pond. We also located the Central Burial Ground on our walk, however no dogs allowed so we just peered in the gate.

Throughout our Adventure Wilma was somewhat out of control loosing her mind with the squirrels. Likely due to their lack of fear and overly friendly personalities causing her to get dangerously close to these brave creatures. I can just imagine what the other canine friends thought about the screaming suburban girl who kept trying to climb the trees. I do not even think Wilma realized I joined her on this Adventure (haha). Wilma did stop to greet several visitors but mostly was hyped with the city squirrels. The Common was busy with culture and companionship creating quite the family feel. There were endless dog visitors many off leash. So glad we could visit the Boston Common today (Rating: 3.5).

Throwback Adventure – The Rocks – New Hampshire

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

In October 2017 Shadow, Wilma, My Mom, and I Adventured to The Rocks in Bethlehem, New Hampshire. This was the first time we discovered The Rocks, but also had numerous Adventures to The Rocks in the summer of 2018. The Rocks is a 1400 property that contains a Christmas Tree farm with views of the Presidential Range. The Rocks is also an educational and conservation center and has trails throughout.

We had a lovely Adventure to The Rocks. The Rocks is such a unique spot as you find a Christmas tree farm with gorgeous mountain views. We explored and snapped our usual endless photographs. Viewing these photos made me smile remembering Wilma’s constant desire to play with Shadow who often engaged with her, while on some occasions dashed away from her energy. She was obsessed with her big brother and it was always adorable to see! Our visits in the summer occurred when we were up in the area working at the Inn in the Mountains. You may have seen some of the summer photos in my past post on Bethlehem. The Rocks is definitely one of a kind. We look forward to returning in the future (Rating: 4).

Weekly Video/Photo

I have decided to return to the “normal” Weekly Video/Photo section of my blog.  As you likely know we lost Shadow about two months ago and I have been focusing this section on Shadow.  However, I have peace knowing I will continue to highlight favorite photographs including Shadow and Buster.  The plan will still be to still display a video or photo, usually highlighting an Adventure, while I might also sneak in some that are humorous, adorable, or just other fun dog moments.

If you have followed my blog from the beginning you will know that I adopted Shadow as a puppy, and about a year later adopted Buster as a puppy.  We had many wonderful years together before experiencing the devastating loss of Buster at just seven.  It took a long time for our hearts to heal, but almost a year later we welcomed little Wilma into our world.  We were recently devastated to loose Shadow on April 3, 2020.  It is so painful to know Shadow and Buster are both gone, but they will be in our hearts forever!

Today’s photograph is a happy photograph of Buster just looking adorable! My guess is that this occurred after a walk in the rain, or possibly the snow and I had just dried him off. He was such a good sport to leave the towel for a cute pose. The boys absolutely loved being dried off, such a joyful pair. We sure do miss our Buster, a loving bundle of energy!

November 7, 2020 – Salem Willows Park – Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to Salem Willows Park in Salem, Massachusetts. Salem Willows Park is a 35 acre oceanfront park that includes: beaches, a pier, restaurants, basketball courts, tennis courts, and arcades. It is known for the European Willow trees which were planted in 1801.

We had a shore-filled Adventure to Salem Willows Park. We decided to explore Salem Willows Park after spending almost two hours walking around Salem. Our Adventure began along the sidewalk that paralleled the Park where we found many benches for guests, and of course for Wilma posing (haha). We stopped at various beaches along the way, where Wilma loved some digging, running circles around me, and dipping in the water. We made sure to explore every inch we could find, avoiding the off leash dogs, yet also finding many other canine friends on-leash. It was an unusually warm day, quite unexpected for November in Massachusetts. It was nice to still see some colorful Fall leaves, and of course the famous European Willows. The perfect spot to end our morning of Adventures (Rating: 3.5).

Throwback Adventure – Woodland Trail/West Hill Park – Massachusetts

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

In May 2014 Shadow, Buster, and I Adventured to the Woodland Trail in West Hill Park, in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. West Hill Park is popular for swimming, hiking, picnicking, and also contains a children’s playground.

We had a green-filled Adventure to West Hill Park. It is easy to forget about the drastic color changed in the season until I pull out photos from a past Adventure. The boys had a wonderful time swimming and exploring. I loved having them off leash running joyfully together. Another fun spring Adventure to cherish. We will just have to add the Woodland Trail and West Hill Park to the many places we should return (Throwback blogs will not always be rated)

Today’s photograph is a recent photo of Wilma, posing in the leaves. I was attempting to get the perfect Fall photograph, and although I LOVE this photo it ended up being more of an adorable up-close photo of my girl versus a Fall theme. Here she is…

October 31, 2020 – York, Maine

Today Wilma and I spent the day in York, Maine. York is a coastal town in Southern, Maine. It contains: York Harbor, Cape Neddick, York Village and York Beach. It is known for the summer resorts, beaches, golf courses, shopping, and the famous Nubble Lighthouse.

We had a beautiful Adventure to York, Maine. I decided to Adventure to places we have been to previously. Our stops included: Old York, Long Sands Beach, Ellis Park, Short Sands Beach, the Wiggly Bridge, Fisherman’s Walk, Sayward-Wheeler House, and Nubble Lighthouse. We walked and walked, ran on the beach, stopped to watch the crashing waves, searched for any last colors from Fall, and followed Wilma’s little nose in whatever direction she chose. The sun was out, and it was the perfect temperature complete with a gusty coastal breeze. Such a beautiful coastal day in York. So glad Shadow and Buster were able to visit these locations too. See below for a photo collage of our spectacular day: (Rating: 4)

October 30, 2020 – Bruce Freeman Rail Trail (Westford) – Massachusetts

Today Wilma and I Adventured to the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in Westford, Massachusetts.  The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is a twenty five mile Trail that includes the towns of Lowell, Chelmsford, Westford, Carlisle, Acton, Concord, Framingham, and Sudbury.  The Trail is 10 feet in width and is popular for:  biking, skiing, walking, jogging, and rollerblading.

We had a snowy Adventure to the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, Westford location. This was the second time we have been on this portion of the trail, however the first time we blogged. As some of you may know, we had some early snow in Massachusetts today. And although we only had about two or three inches it was enough to create a winter wonderland. I loved seeing the bright colored Fall leaves draped with snow, merging the seasons into one. We walked and walked, appreciating the peaceful scene. It was amazing to find we were almost the only ones on this trail, which is often busy with bikers, and others. The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is lovely, and a great place to enjoy some exercise. So glad we would Adventure to the Westford portion of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail today (Blog will not be rated).

Throwback Adventure – Stone Iron Furnace – New Hampshire

I have decided to return to posting new “Throwback Adventures” after taking time to re-post some of my favorites with Shadow.  This has been a therapeutic process for me to share.  We are devastated that both Shadow and Buster have both passed, but find peace knowing we can continue to remember them through our “Throwback Adventures”.  They were amazing boys and are forever in our hearts.

In October 2017 Shadow, Wilma, My Mom and I Adventured to the Stone Iron Furnace in Franconia, New Hampshire. This Furnace is the only surviving Blast Furnace in the state of New Hampshire. The Furnace is on private property but can be viewed across the Gale River from the Interpretive Center.

We had a River-highlighted Adventure to the Stone Iron Furnace. I believe we found the Stone Iron Furnace accidentally. We explored the River on the gorgeous Fall day. Shadow loved drinking from the clear mountain water, while Wilma preferred staying high atop the rocks. This was one of the stops on our first weekend away with Wilma. Although the Stone Iron Furnace was a simple location, we always cherish our Adventures. Definitely a great piece of history for those Furnace fans (Throwback Adventures will not always be rated).
